• Hello –

I am trying to edit some of my permalinks. And there are some numbers now being automatically assigned to the end of them. Just to be clear, this is not the page ID number.

For example I have a page called ticket information. When I edited that permalink to just say “tickets” it changed it to “tickets-2”

I have a page called performances and it changed it to “tickets-3”

    Thank you!

  • It does that because somewhere you have another page, or category, or something with the permalink of ‘tickets’ already. As there can’t be two links with the same permalink, it appends the numbers to the end to differentiate the URL’s.

I am seeing this same problem. The page already exits without the -2 but when I edit it, a -2 gets added to it so that there appears to be two different versions of it. How does that get sorted out? There is only one instance of the page. Is WordPress duplicating pages whenever edits are made?

As I said before… There is some other page/post/etc that has that URL. These can also be in the trash, so check there as well.

Thanks so much! That worked for me!

There is no other page for it and no pages are in the trash. There is a tag for it, so I deleted the tag. Reran Permalinks and still have a -2 page. I wonder if the next time the pages gets edited if there will be a -3 page. As long as WordPress knows which one is the current page, I guess I can live with it.
