Is it possible to map a domain to a subdirectory?

Here’s what I’ve got:
Multisite setup under primary domain http://mainsite.com
I have a specific secondary site that needs to have it’s own mapped unique domain http://mappeddomain.com
But then under that mapped domain I need two branched sites setup as follows in subdirectories
http://mappeddomain.com/site1
http://mappeddomain.com/site2The question is, is this possible at all? And if so how would one accomplish it? Can/should this be handled via the htaccess or is this a lost cause and I should abandon the idea?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
