• I’ve been a NextGen user since 2011, but switched to NextCellent after NextGen overhaul…

Been playing around with Foo Gallery in some local WP installations (Using Instant WordPress) and so far I like what I see with Foo Gallery, and I may consider migrating from NextCellent (NextGen Legacy) in the future.

    First, a few minor issues:

    1. It appears that it’s nearly impossible to insert text after a foogallery shortcode is inserted into a blank post, either before or after the shorcode. Adding text in Text tab is required, or removal and re-insertion of the gallery in Visual tab after text has been added beforehand. Good temporary solution, given the fast access to the foogallery shortcode via the gallery edit button, but it’s not ideal. (Firefox and Chrome)

    2. I noticed a possible plugin conflict with Black Studio TinyMCE Widget plugin if used in conjunction with Page Builder by SiteOrigin plugin, causing the foogallery shortcode to display as text only in Post edit mode (front-end display seems just fine). But if only one or the other is activated, the shortcode displays normally. (Firefox and Chrome)

    3. I noticed that border style and hover effects do not appear to work in Internet Explorer, though it works in Firefox and Chrome just fine (I’m guessing it’s an IE limitation).

    4. Under “Gallery Usage” after publishing the Gallery, the text says:
This gallery is not used on any pages or pages yet. Quickly create a page
I assume it’s meant to read “posts or pages”

    Some suggestions:

    A. Maybe add a second button for a create a Post shortcut in the “Gallery Usage” box.

    B. The NextGen importer works great — BUT it would be nice to keep the existing NextGen folder structure during the changeover. I think many NextGen (and NextCellent) users have custom folder structures setup via FTP and were imported into NextGen.

    C. The ability to import a custom folder structure was one of the big reasons I went with NextGen in 2011. It would be great to be able to “add from server” using whatever folder structure the user chooses. IMO, the lack of ability to select a unique media upload destination from within WP media uploader (or at least import an an existing folder structure) is a big drawback in the default WP media handling. If you’re able to employ something similar within the Foo Gallery plugin or extensions, I think you would definitely grab even more NextGen users.

In the meantime, keep up the great work!

    Wow @joshtt35,

Thanks for the great feedback! I will fix all the issues you have posted above.

    For the suggestions:

    A. can be done
    B. The importer transfers all images over to use the WP image attachments, so they are moved into the appropriate wp-uploads folder. But I get where you are coming from and I agree that an option to keep the folder structure created by nextgen would be great. Other people have also mentioned they would like more control over where the images are stored (all images for a gallery are stored in seperate folders). I will def look into doing this in future.
    C. The “add from server” feature would work hand in hard with the above suggestion B and I will def look into doing this

    thanks again

    cheers
