• I have been frantically searching for a plugin that would emulate a lot of the functionality of Helios calendar and the pro version of this plugin does a pretty good job.

  • Hey BTA-Rick! Rob from Modern Tribe here. I wanted to thank you on behalf of the whole team for taking the time to write this awesome review! We were so stoked to see it come through. It’s this type of feedback that both makes us proud of the work we’re doing from week to week, and gives us a good opportunity to improve in ways that better serve our users.

The fact that you gave us 4 stars is awesome. Out of curiosity: what could we do to the plugin to earn a full 5 stars from you? Are there features or functionality that would make your life easier in the long-term? Would love to hear what those are…we built this plugin for users like you and want to make sure future iterations are in line with your own goals.

Either way: thanks a ton for the great review and feedback so far.

Actually I would rate it 4.5 stars if I could.

I had a bit of an issue with spam submissions with the community/public submission addon. It seems to be sorted now (Have not noticed any new spam submissions).

    My negatives:
The documentation could be a bit better.
Recurring events work a bit better than Helios, but formatting them properly is a bit of a chore. (Until you figure out the system).

I have used it on a small arts society website and so far have not had any problems with recurring events but I will also be using to on a large travel and tourism website that receives a ton of user submissions for events (they usually have 5-10 events per day) and I am a little apprehensive on how the plugin will handle them.
(site speed, user submission errors, spam etc…)

I am sure once i start development and we go live I will have some better feedback and perhaps then give it a full 5 stars.

Hey there BTA-Rick! Thanks so much for taking the time to follow-up here…the whole team really appreciates it, as these are the types of feedback that give us great insight into how we can better serve the community.

You raise some awesome feedback here. On some of the points you covered:

    * We were seeing a lot of reports related to spam in the Community plugin for a while, and it looks like — with the reCAPTCHA integration we added a couple releases ago — those have diminished. Let me know if you see any spam come through in the future.
    * Excellent point on the documentation…this is something that we’re trying to improve, and are hoping that our move away from tri.be and onto theeventscalendar.com will help facilitate that. If you had one overarching complaint about the documentation, what would that be? Is it not detailed enough, or are you saying more that it’s simply unclear?
    * Recurring events can definitely be a challenge to get working. We mimicked the functionality as best could around industry leaders like Google Calendar + iCal, but even then there are some noticeable differences. How do you think we could make this more straightforward…are there any examples of sites/services you’ve seen doing it particularly well? Do you expect that when we introduce random recurrence options (coming in 4.0, and which will allow more freedom in constructing your recurrence) it will just confuse things further? I’d love to flesh this out a bit given that recurrence is a main feature of the PRO release.

I look forward to hearing the outcome of your travel/tourism website…from what you’ve mentioned so far, in terms of the 5-10 events daily, I see no reason why the plugin shouldn’t be able to handle those gracefully. if you find that there are user submission errors, I’d be interested in hearing whether that was due to some confusion regarding how to use the form — since I suspect we could address such issues rather quickly. If there are performance concerns once it’s up and running, let us know that too…we’ve made a lot of changes the past few releases to improve performance and it seems like most users have benefited from that.

Either way: thanks again for the great feedback. If you have any more, don’t hesitate to let us know.
