• Jason is rude, offensive and treats customers like dirt. The singularly worst customer service I have ever seen. Sometimes free is not worth the price. This guy is an ass who doesn’t give a $#!% about you. I’m sure he must be an aspie, has no clue how to interact with people or run a business. Don’t make the mistake I did, which was to build my site on this plugin because it was free. It takes twice as much work to change than it does to get a proper plugin at the start. This is not the plugin you are looking for. Move along. Move along.

  • I’m sure the folks at stranger studios could fight their own battles, but as a user with a decent amount of experience with this plugin I’d thought I’d chime in for the sake of a balanced perspective.

Clearly this plugin isn’t a turnkey sub solution and does require quite a bit of php knowledge to maximize it’s capabilities. If you’re not a developer, it can be quite a bit frustrating.

BUT… I’ve been on the paid forums over at the pmpro site for over 6 months and have NEVER ONCE seen any of the mods (including Jason) act offensively to anyone. And I’ve navigated those forums extensively. They’ve always been courteous and helpful, as well as provided a pretty timely initial response to EVERY inquiry that’s made. It’s rare to find a dead thread on there.

Above all what’s the need for the “aspie” comment??? Was that really necessary? Have some tact.

I will also throw this in: unless you have actually paid money for a product or service, you are not a customer. While rude or discourteous behavior (if there was some) should not be acceptable, please do not mistake being a user of a free plugin with being a customer that paid to have access to a product or service.

They are very, very different things.

pippin, let me object here too: while i do agree, there is a difference between free and paid, at this point i also tell you, free doesn’t mean you can just put out every crap you created after your last weekend dilirium. and if you defend that, you obviously have no clue how business works. even worse: YOU SUPPORT CRAP PRODUCTS! if you don’t like to offer for free, don’t do it. but if you do offer for free, do it right!

if you offer a free product and an upsell, it means you have to do your BEST to satisfy customers to get the upsell. but obviously this developer depends on credulity of his users. and most certainly i don’t believe it gets any better in the paid version, than in the free one. because the bugs are still there. right? so, the truth is, the plugin is not that good. you are just easy to satisfy, because you don’t care to take a closer look and TEST! have you seen people commenting, it takes a php programmer to get the job done properly? there are so many rookie mistakes in this plugin:
    – no login sensitive menu
    – no login sensitive widgets
    – no front end login
    – no front end profile page
    – stupid login redirection
    – drip feed not working
    – time zone error
    – memberships cannot be added, only replaced, yet no warning for members
    – login page link in the settings, yet not used
    – ongoing payment not listed in the invoices
    – admin bar for logged in members
    – the default affilite program does neither offer the option for front end affiliate registration, nor some kind of automatic payments
    – update only once a day, so content is enabled in the morning and the note is mailed in the evening

i could go on and on! and i know all this after a few days of testing. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?! YOU DEFEND THIS? i have to change the time zone for the membership plugin to work properly? ARE YOU SERIOUS? the user of the plugin has to adjust the site to the needs of the plugin? ARE YOU NUTS? what does the developer do? holding the hand out for the money?

seriously: i’m sick of all this crappy products and information out there and while there are two sides of the coin, actually defending serious mistakes makes it even worse!

a plugin has to work. PERIOD. wether it’s free or paid. if it doesn’t do the job, it’s USELESS. the end. can you argue with that? and the support of a company is there to help and rudeness doesn’t get anybody anywhere. and i tell you something else: look at my feedback and READ! know what the answer was? pm-pro might not be the solution for me. i should go and search for something else. tell me pippin: is that the way you do business? because that’s bull! and if you think for a second, you know it!

if a “PAID membership” plugin, even worse … called “PRO” for professional gives away content for free, there is something seriously wrong with it. that’s BASIC! this plugin is not only the wrong solution for me. it doesn’t help ANYBODY. seriously: you create a paid membership site, give a zero or 1 dollar trial perial, the member cancels the payment on paypal and continues receiving ALL content for free? SERIOUSLY? guess what? my site today AGAIN enable access to the next content, even though the payment is cancelled! you call that a “minor” problem? please contact michent1 and together go to your freakin’ forum and stay in your dream world with the people who are easy to satisfy and not capable of doing there job right. because luckily i did and TESTED the plugin before i implemented it and lost THOUSANDS of dollars!

you think that’s a joke? you think that’s professional? go to the forum gurus and ask them who knew and if they know how much money they’ve lost! do you run a paid membership site using the drip feed? tomorrow i’m gonna be your member and the day after i’m gonna get all your content for free! let’s see how long you like it! because that’s what i CAN do, thanks to paid membership pro.

THAT, my friend is what YOU ARE DEFENDING! the plugin is CRAP! and you know why? because NOBODY took the time to actually test it!! neither the developer, nor did you! if the drip feed doesn’t work, there is no reason to release it. so why is it out there? in a professional business world IT CAN’T BE!

THAT’S RIDICULOUS!!! that’s bottom line: create a product. TEST IT AND MAKE SURE IT WORKS! but it seems nobody is testing anymore these days.

so, please cut the crap, will ya! don’t defend people who are not capable of doing there job properly. can i imagine the CEO(!) who’s answering support questions would get pissed and be rude. oh, i can. and why? because to me he appears like a student. back in the days i’ve seen shop software that didn’t work, classified ads market applications that didn’t work … while they are studying, they just put some coding trials out there. since they need money, they give selling a try. and that’s what you experience. a free trial and a “CEO” who’s now holding out his hand for you to put money on it. but if his part doesn’t work, the truth might be hard to handle. a professional developer goes back to work and get’s rid of the bugs. a rookie says “this might not be the solution for you”. especially if it is something severe like a paid membership plugin giving away content for free. again: THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS DAMAGE! people can sue him/them for thousands if not millions of dollars of losses.

jason told me, paid membership pro might not be the solution for me. TELL ME: for whom is the drip feed a solution, other than people who give away content with a plugin that’s called PAID membership PRO?!?!?!?

and if you can’t answer this question properly, you might wanna think twice next time, before defending people and actions. also i encourage you, to in future TEST your plugins before you actively use them. i mean, come on: take a look at michent1: 6 months and you didn’t find a serious bug which i’ve found after a few days? really?

i’ve wasted DAYS to test this pluin and now i can’t use it. is it interesting? yes? COULD it be good? YES. i chose it, because it COULD be interesting. yet, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s not only not working, but also makes your life a living hell for all the time waste you have to invest to set this thing up at least half-decent.

Clearly you’re a very angry person and I don’t have the time or energy to argue with you.

I was not making any statement about the quality of the plugin (good or bad). I only stated that a customer is someone who has paid for a product or service. Calling yourself a customer and feeling entitled to the privileges that come with being a customer when you have simply downloaded a free plugin is far outside of the scope of acceptable.

Regardless of the quality of your interaction or the quality of the plugin that you have used, you are not a customer unless you have paid for something. Until you have paid for something, the author of the plugin has zero obligation towards you. Whether that is a good business decision for Jason and his plugin is up to him to decide.

Note: I’m in no way affiliated with Paid Memberships Pro or Jason, so please stop using “YOU” when referring to me. I didn’t write the code and I don’t support or maintain it. I’m just a friendly moderator on the WordPress.org support forums 🙂

Just something to keep in mind, accounts setup with the single purpose of posting a negative review, which then go on a rant are less likely to get a favourable response then folks using their own accounts and behaving in a vaguely respectful manner, the appearance of calm when posting gives you bonus points.

Either way, I don’t see any good coming from this thread so am going to close it, mainly to save red faces of angry folk.
