• I have the newest version of WOW slider installed in WordPress 4.1 and I have it installed in almost a dozen WordPress sites.

Every single time that a new version of the WOW slider plugin becomes available (and shows as “update available” on the Plug ins page), when I click on “update now”, it starts to update and then a blank white page opens up with just a line of text on it. “You don’t have permission to do that” (or something similar to that wording) – I have to hold down the “back” key on the browser and pick 2 windows back and it will take me back to the plug in page. At that point the Wow slider plug is still highlighted, showing that it needs to be updated. When I click on “update now” again, a new page opens and says that the plug in is already updated to the newest version. When I return to the plug in page, the Wow slider is now deactivated and I have to click to re-activate it….after all that it will work and it is updated.

I have contacted Wow slider support and I got an email back from them almost a week later which simply said “are you still having any problems with your plug in?” – to which I replied “Yes, the same problem that I originally contacted for. Do you have any solution or ideas”. This was a month a go and I have not heard back from them at all.

This same exact problem happens with EVERY one of my WordPress sites where I use the Wow slider plug in. I have even tried it on a brand new site with NO OTHER plug ins activated at all and no content in the site; and I get the same exact error.

This is the only plug in that causes this kind of error.

    Anyone?

    Hello.
This problem is fixed, but only if you update WOWSlider plugin from version 7.8 or higher.

I installed wordpress version 4.1.1 and the wow slider plugin says,”Warning: This plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress.” The slider doesn’t work on my site. When should I look for the wow slider update so that it will work again? Thanks.

An update on this – there is still a problem. It still happens on EVERY site – various WP versions. The most recent one just happened to me a few minutes ago. WP version 4.2.2 – I had version 8.0 WOW slider installed and tried to upgrade to version 8.1 WOW slider. I clicked “Update” and it just hung up the whole site – the “busy” icon just spun for over 10 minutes. The only thing I could do was to exit the page – which of course caused the site to be hung up in “Maintenance” mode and I had to then go to the server and delete the .maintenance file. Once I did that and re-opened the site, the WOW slider plug in was updated, but deactivated. I re-activated it and it was fine. I have found that the ONLY way to update the plug in is to deactivate the plug in first, then click update, and then re-activate it. This is obviously a bug and I hope that WOW slider gets it fixed soon.

Thanks for your feedback. We will fix it.

When will WOW Slider be updated for WP 4.2.2? Thank you.

    Hi,

I have a similar problem. When I try to update the plugin (I have installed WOW slider version 8.0 – WP version 4.2.2) it just keeps running the update forever but it doesn’t finish. When I navigate awvy from the page and I go back to the plugin page it just says that it needs updating.
I also tried deactivating all other plugins but the problem stays.

Everything still works, but I don’t know for how long of course.

    Could you help?

I found that if I deactivate WOW slider first and then click to update, and then reactivate after the update is complete, it works. If I try to update with the plug in activated, it still causes the same issue you are describing.

    Great, that’s it!! Thanks 😀

Can someone please help me?? I am desperate!
    My whole website has disappeared.

I was advised that I needed to update my WordPress to version 4.2.2
I tried to do this by clicking on the Update button at the top of my Admin page.
To my horror, my whole site disappeared and I can’t work out how to find it again. This is the message that appears when I try to ope my website:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_avatar_url() (previously declared in /home/aratinga/public_html/2014/wp-includes/link-template.php:3414) in /home/aratinga/public_html/2014/wp-content/themes/aratinga/functions.php on line 453

I hope all is not lost!

Update: I am using WordPress Version 4.2.4 and I had WOW Slider 8.2. Today when I logged in to my site WOW Slider had an update ready (to 8.4) – I took a chance that this issue must be fixed by now — nope! I clicked on “Update” and the site just hung up forever and when I tried going to another page, it stuck the site in Maintenance mode. I went onto the server and deleted “maintenance” and then reopened the site. The site was now working and the WOW Slider was now updated to version 8.4

I hope this gets fixed soon. The information from the “Plugin Author” from 5 months ago (see earlier comment on this page) that says “Hello.
This problem is fixed, but only if you update WOWSlider plugin from version 7.8 or higher.” is incorrect. It is NOT fixed.

Update: Just tried updating to the new WOW Slider 8.5 and the above problem still exists. If you deactivate the plug in first; then it will update with no problem. But if you try to update the plug in while it is activated, it will simply sit there and and spin indefinitely – the only way to get out of it is to go to the server and delete the file .maintenance and then the site will be back and the plug in will be updated.

I certainly hope the author of this plug in fixes this soon, it’s been close to a year since I first reported this problem (I’m sure I’m not the only one) and there have been numerous updates to the plug in since then; but no fix on this bug.
