Which browser do you use with the iPad?
I use Safari on the Ipad for its Apple’s own browser. I guess the majority of Ipad user’s sticks on Safari so it would be nice to see ‘Zoom and Pinch’ functionality in this browser to.
You know, Martin.. I did find an interesting article on this subject: http://alumofowl.com/2013/02/08/zoom-and-pinch-in-wordpress-mobile-themes/ and I managed (I’m a newby in WP) to change some settings in “viewport” manually. Now I’ve got ‘Zoom and Pinch’ in my header as result. But this is not what I want. I prefer to have the functionality on my galleries only for I’m a professional photographer and the galleries are filled with HD Retina Ready images. This content is perfect for ‘Zoom and Pinch’. I installed Master Slider https://wordpress.org/plugins/master-slider/ and I prefer to present my galleries in the ‘Horizontal Carousal Slider’ mode.
I hope you can help me out 🙂
How did you set the viewport to enable zoom?
Would you please tell the address of your website?
Thanks Martin for your support. I followed the steps in this article: http://alumofowl.com/2013/02/08/zoom-and-pinch-in-wordpress-mobile-themes/
Logically these settings only reflected on the header for it’s ask to look for ‘header.php’
As mentioned I wish to have ‘Zoom and Pinch’ on my gallery pages only. Here is one: http://www-dev.robertaarts.nl/portfolio/holidays-2/ As you can see it’s still the theme with demo content. Yet I would like to know already if ‘Zoom and Pinch’ is possible in this part of the site for then I know in what resolution I need to upload my images. (Note: if zoomed I don’t want to have pixels appearing).
If you need my WP login and password please sent me your e-mailadres.
HI Robert, the demo theme you have pointed to does not allow zooming because of this line in the HTML code:
<meta name="viewport" content="user-scalable=no, width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1" />
But chances are good that you can zoom if you use the plugin with that theme.
I recommend the image resolution for retina displays since iPads have such displays.
This is very interesting Martin:
If I use your plugin I can zoom my home page http://www-dev.robertaarts.nl/ and gallery page http://www-dev.robertaarts.nl/portfolio/holidays-2/ on a smartphone but not on an Ipad.
If I deactivate the plugin and re-write the HTML code you’ve sent:
<meta name="viewport" content="user-scalable=yes, width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=2" />
I can zoom again both pages on a smartphone but not on an Ipad.
So I have this question: I locate the HTLM code you’ve sent me only here: wp-content/themes/themename/header.php
I cannot find it anywhere else. Do you know if this HTLM code (I’m a newby in WP) is also available at gallery level?
If so, I can try to re-write it there to make my galleries zoom to on a Ipad.
If this HTLM code is only written in header.php I believe we tried everything. What’s left is to contact the author of the plugin ‘Master Slider WP’.
If you can not zoom in an iPad despite of several settings of the code then it is a device-dependent topic. The plugin can not help here.
I have found the code in your gallery, so the code is also “at gallery level”, as you wrote. (Or did I misunderstand you?)
Hi Martin.. good news is that you found the code in my gallery. Can you point it out were exactly it is? I wish to re-write this one and try to make the gallery zoom on an Ipad too. Thanks a bundle !!
I assume it in the header.php of your theme.
It is but I thougt you found the same HTML code also ‘at gallery level’.
header.php is making the whole website ‘pinch & zoom’ so I wonder if I can re-write the “viewport” settings directly in my gallery?
No, you needn’t. Why do you want to rewrite it?
