Can you give us some more info about the problem. What were you doing when the order disappeared? What is your website? What do you see when you go to MyBookTable ->Books -> sort books?

I was trying to post new books to the bookpage. The website is dickdumoore.com. I don’t have/see a “Sort Books Option”

Originally when I posted a new book it would give me an option to put a number as to the book order (just like series order, which is still there) but now it’s gone.

    I have to second this.

I am really struggling now since book order has been removed. Every time I add a book now it goes to the bottom of the list. (approx 500 books)

I have to physically drag each book, one at a time from the bottom of the list to the top and then mess about putting them in date order which is done by having to then look up their publication dates again. It is a painfully slow process now.

The old system did it all in one go while we built the page.It was all taken care of. All we did was insert a numeric vale to correspond to the release date of the book and bingo it was done for us.

Unfortunately this new way has increased input time drastically for me.

    1. Any chance we can get the old system back?
    2. Will our old assigned numeric values still be there?

Just so you get an idea of the time involved I just timed moving a book from the bottom to the top which involves selecting the book and dragging the page up.

    23 seconds of page scrolling.

Then one has to find the right slot at which to drop the book. Was it before or after that book….or did that one come first…. waaaa. It is super frustrating.

Just so you get the idea 🙂

Thanks guys, I know you welcome the feedback & look into these things for us. Please help on this one.

Hey guys, thanks for your patience on this issue.

In 2.0.7 we just released a new book sorting system that will allow you to sort your books by any combination of attributes such as Date, Author, Genre, etc. In particular, by using the Date sorting method, you should be able to fine-tune your individual book order from your book pages in a much more intuitive way than the old Book Order field which was just an arbitrary number.

Hopefully this will make it much easier for you all to manage your book order more quickly and effectively. We’re still tweaking this system so if you have any more feedback on how to improve it we’d love to hear it.

    Hi Tim

I am sorry to be a pest but the very function I need to use and the one that was in the old version of mybooktable is still missing.

The new revision still leaves us with the exact same problem.

    Here is my daily scenario.

I decide I want to add all of Stephen King’s books.

I then go ahead and add 50 books. {in the old version I added my desired date when i built each page – was easy – and it would drop right into the correct slot in the order I wanted which is by release date. – I always want the newest first]

At the moment there is still no way to have those 50 books enter my already constructed list at the correct position. Post date and the other options do not help when the book may be 10 years old. I need that book to drop right into position beside the other 10yr old books.

With this updated version it appears as I still cannot do that. I would physically have to find the place for those 50 books. Not only does that mean having the dates of those 50 books but i would then have to research all the other titles around that time. I would not be able to get this information from your list as it does not contain any date information. I would have to look up each book with the retailer and find their dates too.

So to put those 50 books in order would take several hours. Probably somewhere around 5mins per book

I love what you are trying to do but the very function I need is the one the old version had. Sorry guys 🙁

I should mention too that I don’t think this can be automated. Since we are all using different formats like paperback, kindle kobo, audio etc they all have different release dates so it is best that we, as the web designer would select the date that best suits our website.

It makes sense that we just input the date we want while we build the page as we have that information right in front of us as we are building it. It used to take just a couple of seconds and you knew your book would drop right where you wanted it.

Don’t worry, you’re not being a pest, we really do appreciate your feedback on this. Hopefully we will be able to get you the functionality that you need soon.

If I am understanding correctly, with the new Attribute Sorting system you should be able to order your books by release date just like you were before the removal of the Book Order field. On each book page you should be able to change the “Published on” field in the Publish box in the right-top corner of the page to the book’s release date. Then, you can go to the book sorting page and use Attribute Sorting to sort by Post Date. This should cause all your books to slot in automatically where they should be by release date. Please let me know if I am not explaining this clearly or if I am misunderstanding what you are needing.

    Thank you,
    ~Tim

    Excellent Tim – That works!

Tried it on test server and that works perfectly. Turns out we now have even more control as we can also adjust the time. So if we have several books all out on the same day we simply adjust the time of day to sort them in the order we want.

That will do. Shame I will have to go through every book again and change the date but it is now a much better system as those with only a few books can just drag and drop and those just starting won’t notice.

Thanks again as usual for your quick responses and support.

You guys are doing a great job 🙂

Awesome, great to hear that’s working for you! I realize it’s a pain to go in and re-enter the data in a different format now but we feel this will be a far more robust system for the future. As always, please let us know if you ever have any more questions or feedback.

    Thanks,
    ~Tim
