    Hello!

I’m having trouble uploading Pictures, or anything for that matter to my WordPress website. When ever I try to use the media uploader to upload pictures I get this error:

“Unable to create directory uploads/2015/02. Is its parent directory writable by the server?” I’ve spoken with a GoDaddy Support person and we spent over two hours trying to trouble shoot the problem. He ran a script that generated the /home/username/public_html/wp-content/sites/24/2015/02 folder. So we have determined that it isn’t a permissions issue.

I’m just not sure what to do anymore because if I can’t get this fixed I can’t upload ANYTHING to my wordpress website. No Plugins, Images, or anything can be uploaded.

I’m open to any suggestions, and if you need anymore info just let me know.
    I am running MultiSite.

  • I am having the same issue on godaddy. If I find a solution I will post.

I figured mine out. If you go to settings and click media, the file path is called out to get to the folder. On godaddy it uses the control panel name you setup when you setup the hosting. If you cannot remember that it is also usually the default ftp username for your hosting account. I moved this site from a different url/account and had not updated the path and that was why I was getting the error. Mine is now working using the correct path for my account below.

    /home/cprecovery/public_html/wp-content/uploads

    Hi there,

I have permissions for wp-content/uploads/2015/02 as 777 and I am now getting the below error >>>> The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2015/02 <<<<

I cannot see the option Media >> Store uploads in this folder — to verify the path

Where we can see the path ? FYI: I am using latest version of WordPress 4.1

    Please help.

    @inesh

Where we can see the path ?

Log in then navigate to /wp-admin/options.php and on that page, you will find three options:

    uploads_use_yearmonth_folders
    upload_path
    upload_url_path

[edit] note: it’s the /wp-content directory that needs to be writable to create the upload folders.

    Thanks digitalmoxie.

    Please Please Please help me!!!

Im having this issue too (Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2015/02. Is its parent directory writable by the server?)This only started when I updated to 4.1.1 and I have no idea what to do.
Where do I go to correct this issue? Im a graphics guy by trade so am just dabbling in web sites. If someone could give me a step by step guide to resolve I would be extremely grateful.

I was having the same issue despite the permissions being set correctly. I had migrated my site from one domain to another and so developed this issues.

I was able to log into GoDaddy CPanel and see the path on the top left.
It should be something like /home/username/public_html/wp-content/uploads

Went into Settings Media and under Store uploads in this folder and change the path there.

Thank you digitalmoxie for the solution!

I’m having the same problem with self-hosted and 4.1

I’ve just done a fresh manual install with a new database and no plugins are running.

If I go to Settings -> Media, I don’t see any options at all to change the path. Only to untick storing by year month

If I go to wp-admin/options.php then upload_path and upload_url_path is blank.

I had this problem last night and CHMOD to 777 on wp-content made no difference. Should I try that again, and what should I put in upload_path and upload_url_path?

My problem is resolved. Using FTP to reset the permissions didn’t work, but going in via my host’s control panel and doing them on there did.
