Hi David 🙂
After your blog is upgraded to 2.7, you won’t have to deal with this manual upgrade anymore 🙂 Starting from 2.7 there is a feature inside the admin interface for you to hit “Upgrade” and WordPress will be upgraded automatically.
Here is the process I went through upgrading from 2.6.5 to 2.7: http://www.blogtipper.com/upgrading-wordpress-265-to-wordpress-27/
==========
Basically, you would backup the following files/folders:
– wp-config.php
– /wp-content/plugins/ (this has your plugins)
– /wp-content/themes/ (this has your dark_classic theme)
– /wp-content/uploads/ (this has any images you uploaded using WordPress)
– MySQL database
===========
After that, you would delete your WordPress files => upload the new WordPress files => update wp-config.php => upload your plugins and themes
=> then run http://your-blog-url/wp-admin/update.php
===========
The upgrade will go flawlessly. All of your posts, themes, plugins will stay the same.
Bump Big grin! 😀
Whew…Thank you…lol
That makes complete and total sense to me now that you have explained this way. When I saw that text file…can’t find it…It just looked…well…complex. This makes sense.
I can’t thank you enough.
Sincerely,
David M. Sellers

i choose “upgrade automatically”.
After that, wordpress system ask me to insert:
hostname:

password:
connection type:
i confuse because in Adobe Dreamweaver i insert in the site manament panel

username:[my_username]
password:[my password]
prefix URL: http://ftp.esanstudio.net
it works!! i thikn that what i insert in Dreamweaver is same…but..???
anyone help me please…thanks
Not sure what you are asking. I believe you are already logged to your WP site when you go for the upgrade(auto upgrade). I didn’t have to enter any of that info. Perhaps it is because of different servers???
It worked fine for me. Except for some plugin issues that I have resolved.
I’ll try to help. Please explain with a little more detail.
Hello,
Does it matter if I left /wp-content/ files/folders intact with my host during my 2.6.5 to 2.7 upgrade? All the rest of folders/files were deleted. Right now, I still get the message that I need to upgrade to 2.7. My control panel is the new version as found in 2.7.
Thanks for the support.
worrypascanada,
In your WordPress admin => Tools => Upgrade => what does it say? If it says upgrade, hit the upgrade button 🙂
Stephens right….
Sounds like you have already upped to 2.7 yet in the software it appears to be needing upgrade…Click the upgrade. There should be error handlers in the code(I would hope so)… You should be fine doing that.
