• So I have a few thousand members in my mailchimp list. I have bought pro s2members and krumch’s pro plugin.

I have custom questions in maichimp, and I finally figured out how to get them synced. So far so good.

Everything looks like it will work for new people signing up on my site. But what happens if someone who is an old member, who signed up a long time ago just with mailchimp tries to login? They don’t have a user name or password.
How can I make them able to signup up for user name and password?

Because if you try to register it just says email already in registered.

    Any ideas?

  • Why you don’t ask me directly? 🙂 Actually, I am explain this problem in the other thread. Anyway, here is it again:

Right now you have all your old members in the list, but not in the site, right? Click the “Check synchronization” button. This will give you message like “NNN members stay in ZZZ email list, which are not in your site”. You may see it after installation too. And next to it will be “Synch it” button. It imports info from MC to WP. Means, creates accounts, which is missing in WP/s2M, with username and password depending of your settings, and synchronizes all the mapped info. So you will have all the accounts moved to the site, and need info saved too. Note, that this is a slow job for MC, you may get timeout, so may need to wait an hour and then repeat, until all the members are copyed.

Again, think accordingly, not an easy matter, so if your case is not “old list, new site”, think again and find the best way…

Krumch can you please how to get a newly synched mailchimp subscriber a username and password?

Once I synch up my old list with your plugin. They are in wordpress users now.
But how do these users get a username and password?

They can’t register for new account, because their email is already in system. They can click “Forgot password”, but that only generates them a password not a user name.

I’ve looked all over for settings to fix this, but can’t find it.

    Can you help please?

    Thanks!

Don’t worry, plugin cares about. If they are members, they have usernames. Using “forgot password” should show them both username and password. Test please.

    Ok thank you, you’re right.

The username is their email address. But I thought a username could not be the email address in wordpress? But to get the password, they’re going to have to click on “Forgot password”? Thats the only way for them to get a password?

This is good. Since these “imported” users have their username as email address, is there a way that I can make everyone’s username their email address?

I read about this, but it seemed like it was only achievable with some hacks and the s2 developers said it could cause problems down the road.

    Any suggestions?

Username can be the email in WP. Please point me to the URL where s2M say this can be a problem.

As for now can only request password. I prepare a new version where this will be fixed – imported members will get WP “welcome” message. Will be available soon, along with other upgrades.

Well it’ s 3 years old, but the main developer for s2 was saying it may not be a good idea to modify wordpress to allow emails as usernames.

Here is another post explaining how to remove username. Is this the way to go?
https://github.com/websharks/s2member-kb/issues/3 Do I have to install a plugin to do this?

How would I go about using email as username? And only having one or the other on the registration form?
