Support » Installing WordPress » Hostway and the dreaded “Error Establishing Database Connection”

  • Hi there,
I have run into a problem installing 2.6.5 onto an existing website http://www.lassensportsnetwork.com hosted by “Hostway”. Everything was cleanly uploaded, wp-config is correct according to tech support at Hostway, but when I go to run wp-install I get the dreaded ‘error establishing database connection’.
Here is the odd part, sharing space on the same server is another site of mine “www.ourflatworld.com” that I installed using the same download of WordPress. The database was set up exactly the same and the wp-config is set up exactly the same way (only with pertinent info changed of course). WP works just fine on the one install and won’t install on the second site. When I first talked to tech support they said I had no php.ini file and so they uploaded one to my cgi-bin (hostway runs php as a cgi binary) that php.ini contained ‘cgi.fix_pathinfo=1 extension=mysql.so’ and nothing else.
    The MySql version is 5.0.32
Thanks for any advice you can offer… I have been beating my head against this wall for a week now and not making any progress.
