Trying to move site

    I am moving my site to another domain name and host account.

    I have followed the instructions here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_to_a_New_Server

    However I now cannot get into the site on either domain name. I have tried to import the database through the 1and1 (who the hosts for both sites) but when I go to the phpMyadmin screen and try to import the database from the current site to the new one I get this message:

    MySQL said: Documentation
    #1046 – No database selected

    I have no idea what this means can anyone help a novice here?

    You need to first create the database and then do the import from within it. In other words make sure you have clicked on the database you want to import the data into.

    I’m not sure I understand your comment:

    I had created a database on the 1and1 server for the new site. When I import a database from another site does it retain the original name or will it the files go into the new database? If the former what do I need to do to link the imported database to the new site?
    I’ve read all the WordPress Help but as a novice find it difficult to follow 🙁

    You are importing “Tables” into the database so the database name does not need to be the same. So to be clear you are clicking on the new database name in the left margin of phpMyadmin and then clicking on the import button at the top of the screen and not clicking on the import button from the Home screen in phpMyadmin.

    The former will show at the top of the page:

    Importing into the database “your database name”

    If your clicking Import from the home screen it shows:

    Importing into the current server

    Just to say I managed to get everything to work. I went through the whole process three or four times and eventually got it to work. Not quite sure what I did differently but at least I can now access the site.
