If you want to ensure against updates removing your files, save your translations in the global languages directory at wp-content/languages/themes or wp-content/languages/plugins

If this is writable on your system, Loco will use it. Then your files will be safe from upgrades.

The backups will be saved alongside the main translation files, so using the global directory is the only way to be sure they won’t get removed by other processes.

The plugin does not load the files in wp-content/languages folder

Which plugin? The one you’re translating, or the Loco plugin?
What do you mean by not loading them?

    Loco plugin 🙂
Doesn’t load the translation files from the folder so that I can edit them.

It will find them if they’re named correctly according to the Text Domain.

If your theme or plugin doesn’t declare its domain, Loco can only guess. If it guesses wrong, it won’t be able to find the files.
