• I’m moving from a vps to a dedicated server. Httpd runs as “apache” user and group. So I should change all WordPress files owner user and group to “apache”, so that I don’t have to chmod all files. The other solution is to set as file owner an user which is in the same group of apache and change all file permissions.

I’d like to know if according to your experience it’s safe so assign WordPress files/folder to “apache” user/group. Thanks.

  • It’s common to have all wordpress files in your web accessible space with apache user and group set as their owner.

But this is not the best approach at all times. Check this codex page: Hardening_WordPress.
