Plugin Update Problem with WordPress 4.1 Upgrade

First, let me thank anyone who has time to help me in advance. I’ve searched for this topic and read through almost all of the postings. Where I run into problems is that I am not an expert in website programming or in the details that go into the domain or host settings. I can, however, follow a list of instructions.

About 2 weeks ago, I upgraded to 4.1. At that point, I was no longer able to upgrade my plugins. The following is the message I get for all of my plugins.

Message from Adsense Plugin Update:
“Update Plugin
Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/adsense-now-lite.4.60.zip…

Unpacking the update…

Installing the latest version…

Removing the old version of the plugin…

Could not remove the old plugin.

Plugin update failed.”

Can anyone help me with some easy to follow next steps? It feels silly that this is a problem on a modern web publishing system.
