    Dear Pretty Link Team

In fact I am experiencing exactly the same Pretty Link Lite issue as “Travski” in this recent thread (Unable to update the target URL in pretty link lite) – this is a first-timer, never had any issues with Pretty Link before – for years:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/unable-to-update-the-target-url-in-pretty-link-lite?replies=6

I do get the same error message when simply trying to update an existing URL in the Target URL field:

ERROR: This Pretty Link Slug is already taken. Check to make sure it isn’t being used by another pretty link, post, page, category or tag slug. If none of these are true then check to see that this slug isn’t the name of a file in the root folder of your wordpress install.

What is meant by “used by another pretty link, post, page” – Well, if we are talking utilising the pretty link on an HTML page such as /examplelink/go-here then of course it is being used, that is the whole point of Pretty Link (masking the link and using it in your code). I guess this is not, what the above Error message is implying since it worked before, always and for years.

In addition, I rolled back to version 1.6.4 with no success, which is strange. If the Travski issue has been resolved, I would greatly appreciate to find out how, since the user has been referred to the Pro support and the issue has not been resolved in the forum thread.

Many thanks in advance and all the best

    Hello all

Looking further into this issue and other Pretty Link forum entries, I can see, it is not resolved at all. I am seeing the same issues as the other users where no similar slug is used. Also when trying to delete an entry and adding it again, it will not accept it and throw the same Error.

This is the case with all the Pretty Link entries I set up before and it is quite a few. I did not have this issue before, since I updated existing entries before. I start to wonder, if this is a conflict with another plugin.

Any help is appreciated, since now this issue renders the plugin useless.

    Many thanks

    It’s me again

I am not trying to spam here, but I have come across something else, that shows – something else must be up with this plugin in regards to the issue with entries not updating.

On one domain, I did actually come across a Pretty Link slug that is ALSO used as a tag slug and GUESS WHAT – the target URL of that Pretty Link updates without any issues.

    So, I have:
    /example1/ as a tag and
/example1/go-to as a Pretty Link entry.

I can modify the Pretty Link without any issues! Yet with another unique Pretty Link entry that is not existent anywhere else, either as a tag, category, page, post – it does not…

So, I believe the problem lies somewhere else.

Our next release contains a complete rewrite of the slug checking algorithm. It should correct what you’ve been seeing here.
