Thumbnails linking to image URL instead of attachment id.

    Im trying to change the way the thumbnails link to the image in the gallery.

    when i click an thumbnail image, it links to the attachment id by default. But i want it to link directly to the image URL. In that way i wont have to click through an extra page to get to the full size image.

    The way i want it to link:

    http://www.wordpressblog.com/blogfolder/wp-content/uploads/20015/10/image_title.jpg

    Ive searched the forum, and found some info, but i cant seem to get it to work.
    I have Tried to use the [gallery link="file"] shortcode, wich i understand should solve this, but im struggeling to understand where to insert the codeline. Ive tried inserting it in the end of function.php (in the theme folder) but then my site goes blank.

    Would be really happy if someone could help me out.
