  • There are many types of themes in just about every imaginable category of design, and you can try as many as you wish until you find one you like…

    https://wordpress.org/themes/

To install a free theme from wordpress.org, go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes and click “Add New”…and then begin your search.

It would be best if you tell us your issues.

That way, anyone that knows how to solve those specific issues will be able to help you out.

    Thank you leejosepho and Miroslav,

I appreciate your response to my post. i want to design a blog site, but it doesnt look professional at all to my taste. http://www.nairaroot.com is the site, but i’m looking at something that looks like http://www.bloginity.com but my themes are not giving me.

i will appreciate it if someone can help me out with it.

I look forward to hearing from you. have a great day.

That’s really way too broad of a request for the level of support offered here. If you have specific questions about your theme, post on the theme’s own forum here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/theme/sporty#postform

Or perhaps you should look for another theme that has the look or layout you want.

Or you could consider hiring someone to give you more extensive help –

    http://jobs.wordpress.net/

The site you have mentioned is being displayed in a custom theme, and you can identify that theme and its author by using either of these links:
    http://whatwpthemeisthat.com/
    http://www.wpthemedetector.com/

At the second of those two links, this notice is viewable:

This theme is not available for you to download or buy. It can be a full custom theme, but it could also be a customization of a pre-existing theme (if that is the case, sometimes you can get a hint about the original theme by looking at the theme screenshot).

So, that leaves you with these kinds of options:

    1) Contact that theme’s author (or any other theme builder and developer) to inquire about having a custom theme made for your own site;
    2) Find a theme (such as the one you currently have) that is at least close to what you want and then either customize it on your own or hire a theme builder or developer to do that for you.

Some people are quick to spend money for a commercial or custom theme where others of us (such as here in these forums) begin with what is available from wordpress.org and then do our own customizations and/or hire others to help us. My personal recommendation is that you not go spend money anywhere and instead build your site from here unless you are truly certain you want to spend whatever amount might be required to get what you want by using a commercial theme…and to then also be dependent upon that source for its updates and/or for any additional modifications or customizations since these forums offer support only for WordPress, plugins and themes downloaded from here at wordpress.org.

Thnak you WPyogi and leejosepho for your detailed advice and also the time taken to write that piece.

However, I will download as much plugins as possible just to make the best out of the theme i will use, i’m still doing some experimentation to see the best theme that will be at least look good.

Let me ask you, do you have any blog/site that you know that is designed with a free theme, so I can take a look and see perhaps if I can also keep trying to the best of mine too.

Also can you please help me with plugin names that i can add just to make mine better too.

I appreciate your effort in trying to help me out here.I await your response. Thanks and bye.

I will download as much plugins as possible just to make the best out of the theme i will use, i’m still doing some experimentation to see the best theme that will be at least look good.

While you are trying different themes, get as close as possible to what you want without using plugins, then add one or more plugins only to help with something you cannot find already available in a theme. Also, there is a plugin you can use to “test drive” different themes only for yourself and without having to continually change your active theme everyone else sees:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-test-drive/

Let me ask you, do you have any blog/site that you know that is designed with a free theme, so I can take a look and see perhaps if I can also keep trying to the best of mine too.

Most of the sites people mention here in these forums are using free themes from wordpress.org, and each theme also has its own support forum here for questions and help. So, any time you would like to see how other people are customizing their own themes, search for that theme at the “Themes” link at the top of this page and then visit that theme’s support forum.

Also can you please help me with plugin names that i can add just to make mine better too.

When you have a specific need for a plugin to do something, you can search the “Plugins” link at the top of this page and you could also post a topic here in these forums to ask for any suggestions anyone might have.

    nairaroot,

Do you have any experience with HTML, CSS and simple php?

What you are trying to achieve is possible. However it would involve editing the templates and some of the frame structures.

for example: with basic css. you can use CSS to move the menu to the right using things like float:right; you can remove your white header entirely using Display:none; changing the font face and other small css settings it would not be hard to implement closely to what your are trying to achieve.

    check this image out

This took around 6 minutes to achieve

Thank you so very much leejosepho and Bubblechaz for all your suggestions and i’m sorry for my late response as well. I do not have any knowledge with HTML, CSS and simple php and i think that is where the problem lies.

in just 6 mins Bubblechaz you’ve done that demo wow!! that is awesome. I wish you could help me out more on this, pls how can you do this Bubblechaz?

I can see that there is just little I can do with all these free themes and without the knowledge of HTML, CSS and php experience.

I await your response to my request.

    Thanks.

I can see that there is just little I can do…without the knowledge of HTML, CSS and php experience.

That can become even more difficult with a purchased theme since support can be more difficult to find. But overall, Google can be a great friend. So once you get going with a certain theme, do searches like this example:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+add+header+logo+to+%28my+theme%29

Or to search only this site, try something like this in the search bar:
site:wordpress.org/support/ how to add header logo to (my theme)

Thank you leejosepho for all your advice. I am trying to go through with your suggestion and i hope i am able to fix it.

i will update you as things unfolds or you can check out my blog to see if you can offer some suggestions too and believe me, it will be highly appreciated.

    thanks once again.

    hi friends,

i’m back again. i have been able to do just little on my blog. pls i will not mind if someone can help me complete the whole thing. i’m calling on Leejosepho, Bubblechaz,Miroslav Glavić,etc. i want to get my blog up and running soonest.

I await to hear from you.

    thanks and bye.

I am not a coder, but those who are will need to know more specifics than “i want to get my blog up and running” in order to try to help. Most will want to see your site for themselves along with the code you are wanting to edit and what you have tried so far. Also, you might want to consider some of these kinds of learning resources:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=online+css+tutorial+lessons

Edit: Also, do you have a child theme for your edits? Changing anything in the files of a downloaded theme is not a good idea since your changes will be overwritten during an update.

    thanks leejosepho,

i have not done anything on the site as regards css style because i dont know anything about it. All i have done is just the general designing with the wordpress admin.

i just want to add just a little thing to the way it is now and i will be ok. I wish i can have someone who can just help me out. Do you have someone you can link me up with? i will be so glad.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Sorry, but these forums only offer help here – but if you want to hire someone, you could post a job listing here:
