  • Hi LoveHorse,

Are you using default permalinks? Try switching to postname permalinks under Settings->Permalinks

Thanks, I change it as per your advice and the redirection has worked.
But the original link still displays, not the cloaked link.
I’ve tried another link, and its the same, you can still see the original link and not the cloaked one.

    How can I fix it?
    Happy new year

    Hi LoveHorse,

Not quite sure what you mean, can you please provide an example?

The “cloaking” is a redirection, it doesn’t hide the destination URL from the user as this would be against the TOS of several companies including WordPress, Google and pretty much any affiliate program.

Ok, so maybe I don’t understand something, I’ve got the affiliations links with my ID on in, and the cloaked URL is http://www.phototips.me/recommends/learn-photo-editing/
when I view the link, I get redirected to the affiliation product and the the original url – the one with my ID on it display, shouldn’t I need to see the ‘nice’ URL instead? – http://www.phototips.me/recommends/learn-photo-editing/?

    Thanks

    Hi LoveHorse,

Sounds like it’s working as expected. This is a redirection, it’s up to the merchant as to whether they redirect and obfuscate the affiliate’s ID (which they should).

The 301 redirection from your cloaked URL will protect your commissions in 99% of cases, however depending on the merchant they might be able to manually alter the URL after that, but they would have to be really determined, in reality this doesn’t happen often.

The kind of cloaking where you completely hide the URL and they don’t see where they are going is usually against the TOS most affiliate programs. I would check with yours before you investigate further on how to do this.

    Hope this helps!

I’ve done all the instructions to resolve redicect to 404 but still not working.

    Hi,

I am having a similar problem, I keep getting a message saying too many redirects occurred when I try to visit my new site, funkydaddy.net?

    Source, funkydaddy.wordpress.com
    Target, funkydaddy.net

Have removed redirect until i hopefully get resolved soon,

    Any advice greatly appreciated,

    Paul.

Just checked and it works in reverse..

    Hi Paul,

Can you please make your own new thread?

We rarely check old threads once they’re resolved. I just happened to still have email notifications on this one.

You’ll need to be more specific with your request as well, these don’t sound like ThirstyAffiliates issues. Please try deactivating your plugins and turning them on one by one until the issue reappears to try and isolate the issue.

    No worries, thank you..
