    Hi all,
No Plugin function in a WordPress.COM site’s dashboard (in constrast to a WordPress.org dashboard).
How to install a plugin to a wp.com site when there is no plugin instal function and no access to a cpanel?

    Why I ask is:
    – working on a client’s wp.com site, editing it with her.
    – she had a Mailchimp email signup form load when visitors clicked on an image.
    – we accidentally lost the coded image and want to replace the function.
    – Mailchimp site gives her the code for the Mailchimp signup form, but it does not work when pasted into an html page or widget (despite what they say).
    – all the Mailchimp plugins need to be installed at the cpanel level, or require the plugin instal function from the dashboard – both not available on the .com hosted wp site!
    – whatever the client’s prior webmaster (uncontactable) set up was simple, yet we are having massive trouble re-creating it.

    Any ideas?

  • You cannot install plugins from outside WordPress.COM on a site hosted there. The list of plugins available for WordPress.COM is here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

    See also:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

Which is why you cannot post the MailChimp code there.

For help with a WordPress.COM site, you’ll need to be on their forum here:

    Hi,

WPyogi is correct. You cannot install this plugin (or any plugins found in the repository) onto a WordPress.com hosted site. Anything found on WordPress.org must be used with a self hosted installation of WordPress on your own server.

With that being said, MailChimp provides the embed code for you over on MailChimp.com once logged into your account. You’ll most likely need your clients log in information.

See the following MailChimp article for further assistance :

    Thanks,
    Evan

Hi and thanks for your replies. I’ve been logged in to my client’s WP and Mailchimp sites from the get-go, and gotten the Mailchimp embed code for the form from her Lists section, as per their instructions. And their instructions on the “adding signup forms” page which I used at the start, unsuccessfully, say the code can be pasted anywhere that html is accepted including in pages, posts and widgets. But it doesn’t work there, and when questioned they say it has to be added to the stylesheet, but give no information on how to access said stylesheet! They are not quick to answer emails, so I and client are still hanging waiting for a reply to these questions…. The fact is, the Mailchimp form WAS working on the site, and it should have been a simple matter to replace it…. 7 unpaid hours later, I’m still trying…
