When was the horrible revisions feature introduced?

What’s the last WP version without the horrible revisions “feature”, that saves lots of unwanted random copies under new IDs in the database?

I need a version of WP that maintains the integrity of the posts, keeps one post with the same one ID, no matter how many times you edit it.
