Hi there, I have updraft plus 1.9.30 installed on WP 3.8.5 (i did not want to upgrade without a good backup)
Tried to make some complete backups, but they were stuck when backing up the ‘uploads’ section. even after 12 hours, still no further progress. Warning: 64Mb RAM on server not sufficient enough. Ok. Bummer. Have to find another way to backup.
It left me with 400Mb/470Mb of temporary files (i think) on the server. The Updraft-plugin itself gives me this information. I have no FTP management on the moment. So i can’t check/delete it there. Also they do not disappear after 24 hours.
I do have 2 database backups of a few Mb’s. Nothing else. I deleted the backups i suspected that caused this trouble, it did not help. So i assume these big files are unfinished backups of ‘uploads’.
How can I get rid of those big files without FTP. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but of no avail.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

To delete files without FTP access, you can use a plugin like this one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-filemanager/ (works on WP 4.0 despite not having its meta info updated to say so).

    Hi David,
    Thanx for your reply.
I did try this plugin too (just as the other plugins for troubleshooting). I’m on WP 3.8.5. I just updated to 1.4.0 and tried it again. I just see the folders; css, images, includes, js, maint, network and user. I do not see any folders inside these, except the css folder. Just php-files. I can’t get any levels up, so i think the plugin works not well in this version of WP.
Finally i found the MiwoFTP-plugin that does work as expected. Also a better UX.
I found 12 files of between 20-45Mb, all …uploads.zip.tmp files.
Thanks for your advise and effort. I like Updraft a lot, so i hope you will find a fix concerning this issue for servers with (too) little RAM.
    Best, Tom

    Hi Tom,

Increasing the maximum amount of RAM your WP install is allowed is a one-line fix in your wp-config.php. Just add something like this:

    define( ‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘256M’ );

    Hi David,
Tried it with 256M and 128M, but no succes. I think it’s limited server side. But i’m no expert at this. I will check it out another time, it’s taking too much time already.
Switching my customer to a better hosting provider or upgrading the hosting plan seems a better solution. Again, thanks for your feedback!

    Hi,

You’re welcome. If it can’t be increased, then you should definitely look at a better provider. 64Mb was standardish about 2008 or so. From our stats, less than 0.5% of webservers have this little; the typical value is 256Mb.
