• Hi!

I like “Hoffman” a lot and would love to use it for my blog.

That’s why I was really disappointed when I found out that its RSS feed actually only shows half of the content. Neither featured images, nor anything from the post formats – be it videos, galleries or quotes – are included, due to the theme’s usage of custom meta boxes instead of media embed codes. Just have a look at the demo’s feed: http://andersnoren.se/themes/hoffman/feed.

Since I still have a lot of readers who follow my blog via RSS, I would not want them to miss these often crucial parts of my blog posts.

Does anybody here have any thoughts on how to fix this? That would be great. Thank you so much in advance!

  • Hi Eva,
I checked the demo feed link you listed. The whole thing came through for me, including the everything you mentioned in your first paragraph.

    Hi Perry,
sorry for my late answer. May I ask which RSS reader you use? I use feedly and also tested on bloglovin and several others, neither worked for me. I’m trying some workarounds now as these two are the ones most used by my readers…

    Hi Eva,

I get the full content as well. Make sure that you’ve set your Reading settings to display “Full Text”, and not “Summary”. You’ll find those settings in Admin > Settings > Reading. There’s no code in Hoffman influencing the content of the RSS feeds – that’s all built-in WordPress functionality.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi Anders,

thank you so much for responding to this! Although I’m not sure whether we are talking about the same thing.

It’s not about full text vs. summary – Hoffman’s RSS feed does show everything that is entered into the main content field in the WordPress admin area. However, if I choose the video or gallery post format where your template automatically generates a gallery from the pictures I uploaded to a post (without using WordPress shortcodes or so) or inserts the video through the respective meta field, these specific contents are not included in the RSS, neither in the automatic subscription e-mail if you use the respective WordPress/Jetpack plugin. Same applies to the featured image. I tried it with both your demo site and mine, and several other blogs using the theme.

I’m not sure if I can make that clear, so maybe read this blogpost to understand what I mean. The same blogger suggested a workaround a while ago, but this certainly cannot be an permanent solution. So I guess that he is right and we indeed have to say goodbye to post formats. But that would really be a pity, given your beautiful theme.

So if you have any idea how to fix this, that would be amazing.

(Like, if you look at Clements’ workaround, would it be possible to call for the video function you implemented in Hoffman in the same place in the functions.php? I tried it with the flexslider for the gallery post format, but it crashed my whole site 🙁 )
