I was wondering if Duplicator could (or might consider in the future) splitting the archive into multiple files and then rejoining them on the install process. I’m duplicating a site and the zip archive is almost 1GB which could take all day to upload via FTP. I’m uploading it via my host’s file manager, but I think it might be too large for that.

    Cheers,

  • Hey Helgatheviking,

That would be quite complicated to make sure it all stays in-tact correctly… I would consider using the directory filters (just exclude your images directory) then manually move over the larger files after the install…

    Cheers~

How about putting some directories (e.g. the images directory) if wanted in a second zip-file?

These are definitly options. Most likely something that will be worked on in the Pro Version.

    Hi Cory,

did you implemented a splitting feature?

If not, maybe you want to take a look into Akeebas splitting function and filesize configuration. For larger websites and for some servers it is necessary to split backup packages to smaller packages.

    Best regards.

    Hey Heiden,

Thanks for the feedback! The pro version uses a queue process to cycle a request every 30 seconds which works good for most hosts. It also allows for shell zipping which is about 10x faster that the PHP libs. We have found that this combination gets about 98% of most sites we have come across. For the super large sites 2GB+ most users just create a filter and then manually move those files.

Right now because we are a small team, the super larger sites are not our target niche. As our team grows we hope to capture more of that market, however because its so small we have just been focusing on providing the features for our current target market. We may consider that someday in the pro version, but for now to keep the overall experience super simple for the user we try to cap the backup process to provide a more reliable easier experience for the user.

    Cheers~
