• Last week I had my site verified for Google Webmaster Tools. The thing is, I keep getting the below errors when I use the Structured Data Testing Tool.

    Error: Missing required field “entry-title”.
    Error: Missing required field “updated”.
    Error: Missing required hCard “author”.

I’ve looked up remedies here and all over the net, but my theme, which is a wordpress.com theme called ‘Pool’ does not contain a single.php file where I can correct the codes, and my index.php does not contain the needed code for ‘author’. Is there any way I can remedy this?

    Thank you.

  • If your site is hosted on WordPress.com, you should contact the WordPress.com support folks via http://en.support.wordpress.com/

Most of the answers you’ll get here on WordPress.org are for self-hosted sites where you have the ability to edit files and plugins – which isn’t possible with WordPress.com so they’ll be able to offer your more appropriate answers.

Hi, ahockley. I am self-hosting, My theme is from my old wordpress.com days, but I haven’t changed it yet as I wanted to eventually redesign using a pro since I’m semi-technically stunted. lol

I want to add – I’d like to activate a wordpress.org theme like twenty twelve, but some of my widgets and ads are missing when I preview, and that worries me.

    Hello KittKatt,

It sounds like you have some missing fields on some content. What version are wordpress are you running? It’s wise to update to later version, but you also have to make sure the theme is also compatible with the version you’re running.

Does the Webmaster tools give you any specific error?

    Best Regards,
    Ryan

    Hi, Ryan. I’m running wordpess 4.0and the t5heme has worked fine with it until I did the Structured Tool Test and got the above errors on every page. Here is exactly what it reads after each page;

    Error: Missing required field “entry-title”.
    Error: Missing required field “updated”.
    Error: Missing required hCard “author”.

    No specifics.

I’m reviving this thread because I’m thinking that my old ‘Pool’ theme, which is now retired, is probably the cause of the above errors. That being said, I’ve downloaded a few other themes, mainly wanting to go with Twenty Twelve, but when I preview all of these themes, my widgets, ads, and other things seem to go wonky or not appear at all, hence why I’ve refrained for so long from switching themes. I’ve read in these forums about making a backup of your site and using that to activate, but I’m mostly in the tech realm, and would surely mess things up.

It is the theme; the needed markup is missing from the old “Pool” theme. You need to either edit and update the theme or use another, newer theme.

I definitely want to activate a new theme, songdog, like Twenty Twelve, but if you read above, I’m afraid to because the previews of every theme I’ve tried have shown missing or crooked widgets, ads and all kinds of wonky stuff. I’m hoping someone knows someone who can activate a new theme for me making sure everything stays as is.

You cannot solicit work in these forums. Read http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#Offering_to_Pay and see my edit to your post above.

You will have to reset widgets and ads and other options when you switch themes; it’s very typical when anyone switches to a new theme. It’s the way WordPress works.

If you can’t do the work yourself, consider looking for a reputable person on freelancing sites such as Elance. (FYI, it’s not a good idea to respond to unsolicited emails from forum users offering to work for you.)

My sincere apologies, songdog, I honestly didn’t know that. I will check out the above site. Thank you for the link 🙂
