• The theme developer seems to care and is actively involved in making ongoing enhancements and improvements. Good support.

    Hi elibrarian27,

First, I would like to apologize if my support engineer has not been polite or helpful. If you can direct me to any threads where he has been “blowing you off”, I would like to know about those right away. It’s not a core value I have and it’s not the kind of service we provide in general.

I found two threads of yours here:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/listing-content-always-appears-as-plain-text-loses-html-formatting?replies=2
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-get-imageslogos-to-show-up-in-features-listing-widget?replies=4

I replied to those personally (I am the owner) and if you felt “brushed off”, I apologize for that–I did not believe I was doing so in responding the way I did. When an answer is posted, it’s not always possible to know about the technical level of the asker, but many WP users are pretty knowledgeable so I try to strike a middle ground.

For your specific questions/issues, I’d like to respond to some of them:

    1) The flowing of list items is something that is controlled by a theme. We output things in a certain order, but it’s up to the theme to display them and some themes will push the items in a left-to-right fashion, some do a top-down fashion. Have you tried this on a default theme, which I’m pretty sure is top-down? That would tell you if the issue is theme or plugin related.

    2) Yes, this is something we are changing for our next release. It will be available shortly. I would be happy to provide early access for this if you need it sooner.

3 and 4) I’m really sorry if you were told it’s impossible. That’s actually NOT true at all. You can use a translation file to change any string in the plugin you wish. Details on how to activate it are here: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/quick-start-guide/#translate Once active, you can edit the file to use whatever strings you like, including changing the case of something like the widget title or button names.

We are somewhat limited in what we can suggest with the translation file mainly because WordPress dictates how you should package and expose most strings–the plugin itself can’t expose every single string as a setting–that would prove to be cumbersome to you and really difficult to maintain. The translation file is the mechanism provided by WordPress to handle that for any language, not just English. In general, it works pretty well. I won’t say it’s perfect, but all plugins are required to adhere to it if they’re considered “WP compliant”.

If that’s something you aren’t technically comfortable with, there are resources to help out with that. WPCurve is a great resource that we suggest to a number of folks who aren’t developers to help get “little stuff” that aren’t hard but are still things that WordPress makes more challenging than they need to be.

Again, I’m really sorry about the negative experience here and would welcome further direct discussion about any issues you’re having with me, personally: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/contact/

    One other thing, Emily:

The Featured Listing widget CAN be changed without any intervention in the translation file. This is a standard feature of all WordPress widgets. You can change this under Appearance->Widgets and then find the widget location where you placed the Featured Listing widget. The title is easily edited without using the translation file.

My apologies that my support engineer misdirected you on that. I will make sure he gets the correct information on that.
