I’m sorry for the bad experience.

There are various explanations, but here is the most likely: you are the third person to report this kind of issue in a few days. I have the feeling that the server of RealFaviconGenerator is not accessible from various places (India and South Korea among others).

To fix this, RealFaviconGenerator will be moved to another server next Sunday. I’ll keep you posted so you can retry when it is done and let me know if that fixes the issue.

Update: the migration will take place on Tuesday, not tomorrow.

hello and thanks for your response. i just gave it a quick go but came up with an error so i assume it is still being migrated.

i am happy to wait and give it another go later. i will let you know how it goes.

note that i am using this from Australia.

    thanks.

The migration should be completed by now. Would you give it another try?

As an aside: the users who reported connection issues from Asia can now access the site. So this possible clue I listed 5 days ago seems to be deprecated now.

hello – that is much better thanks. the code generated and also gave me a link to download the file.

tho i am getting some errors when i do a site check.

i have uploaded all the images to the root directory (i assume the directory that has the files wp-login.php etc)

    eg:
Some picture(s) are missing in favicon.ico:
    16×16 picture
    32×32 picture
    48×48 picture
Some recommended PNG favicons are missing (or their sizes attribute is not set):
    16×16 picture
    32×32 picture
    96×96 picture
    160×160 picture
    192×192 picture
Some iOS pictures are not declared:
    114×114 picture
    72×72 picture
    144×144 picture
    60×60 picture
    120×120 picture
    76×76 picture
    152×152 picture
    180×180 picture

    thanks.

When using the plugin, everything is done automatically for you: pictures extraction, HTML declaration… Apparently you did the favicon creation manually, by going to realfavicongenerator.net and without the plugin, is that right? Is there a reason for this? Because your first post was about the plugin.

Was there any news about this issue?

    Thread Starter mrcavallo

    (@mrcavallo)

hello – apologies for not updating you.

i did end up doing the install automatically.

however i still receive many errors when running the favicon checker – but it seems to be working for all of the devices i have – so i am not sure what is wrong or what i should try next.

there are too many errors to list here but mostly from windows, android and desktop.

    thanks.

Hum πŸ™ Could you provide the URL of the site for review? If you don’t want to disclose it here, you can mail it to me at philippe@realfavicongenerator.net

hello – sorry for the false alarm.

I was so used to loggin into the site automatically I neglected to notice it was in maintenance mode – therefore not accessible to the public. hence the errors I was getting.

the site is now live and I am pleased to inform you the plugin works perfectly.

you’ve done a great job – 5 stars from me.

    thank you.

    Plugin Author phbernard

    (@phbernard)

Oh, I completely overlooked this point. The plugin should detect the maintenance mode and deactivate the checking option. Will try to add this soon.

    Thanks for reporting!

    (@phbernard)

Wait a minute, what do you mean by “maintenance mode”? πŸ™‚

As far as I know, the code WordPress maintenance mode is only used for short period of time, typically when updating plugins. What did you use to block your site, a specific plugin?

    Thread Starter mrcavallo

    (@mrcavallo)

    hello,

yes – the site was using a maintenance plugin called:

Coming Soon Page & Maintenance Mode by SeedProd

I know you mention that the site needs to be accessible to the public. maybe if the generator is picking up many errors it is worth displaying this as a large heading on the test page? just so idiots like me can see it clearly πŸ™‚

    hope this helps.

    Plugin Author phbernard

    (@phbernard)

Okay I see. I think it will be difficult for the plugin to check the presence of Coming Soon Page & Maintenance Mode and similar plugins.

However, that’s a good proposal! You’re right: when someone comes from the WordPress plugin, everything should work. The “many errors” case deserve a particular treatment and specific tips.

    I created https://github.com/RealFaviconGenerator/realfavicongenerator/issues/112 for this.

Thank you for following up during this long thread!

I’m currently receiving the same issues.
An error occured: Cannot download JSON file at http://realfavicongenerator.net/files/5c596a58237b0260a5a00eb69911133c35d724bf/json_result.json: connect() timed out!
