Hi there, I found last week that a handful of my posts are not accessible when I search for them. This was true already when I was using wp version 3.9.2. I then updated to v4.0, and the issue remains the same.

So, when I search for any of these titles: “Edready” “Duolingo” “Simple English Wikipedia” “Desmos Calculator” and “Youtube:TCC”, it finds the post title BUT it does not show the excerpt under it AND when I click on the result title, no post shows, just the title. However, all my other 90+ posts show up in search results just fine with excerpts and click-able titles that bring up the full actual post.

I have no idea why just a few are not displaying properly when I search for them. I am still able to access the actual post for these handful of posts if I go to it through my A-Z index page or through the tag cloud or ‘Expolore’ browsing or if I type in the url for the post directly. I only cannot access these posts through search :/

Any ideas of what is going on? My site is learn.tacomacc.edu. I use Responisve-child Theme. I tried re-saving my permalink settings, which didn’t change anything. I tried switching themes, still same issue. I tried doing a database repair, no change. Thats when I decided it may be a Relevanssi issue and came here 🙂 Any leads to a fix would be much appreciated! Here is my search.php template: http://pastebin.com/b82LVKHA

Hmm, is Relevanssi enabled now? If I search for “EdReady”, I see post title, excerpt with highlight and the page itself, no problems… Ok, with “duolingo”, I see the problem.

Are you using highlighting on post page? If so, try disabling that setting. It probably doesn’t work well with your site.

OH! Sorry, I messed up your testing because yesterday I decided to try to unpublish the EdReady post and copy&paste into a brand new post to see what happened. So the the dysfunctional EdReady post is not there anymore :/ And the new post is the one you successfully searched and found.

Yes, I am using highlighting. The posts that are currently not appearing in search results correctly are as follows:

    Desmos Calculator
    Youtube:
    Simple English Wikipedia
    Duolingo
    American Museum of Natural History
    Real Age
    This is Anthropology

These were all that I could find doing various searches to discover which posts weren’t working. Kinda strange how it is just a few….there must be something in common between these posts causing the issue, but I cannot figure it out :/ At least I have learned that creating a new post works, so if I can’t find another way, I will just recreate all the posts that are not showing up in search.

I will try turning off highlighting and see what happens…

Interesting. So you were right. When I turn off highlighting, all the posts work. Why might highlighting affect only these few posts from showing? If I want highlighting should I just recreate the posts? Or will I eventually have the same issue again?

I turned highlighting back on for now so you can see what its doing.
    Thank you!!

I would just disable the on-post highlighting; I don’t think it’s such a killer feature in the first place, and if it’s not working with all your posts, then you should get rid of it. Either that, or recreate the posts, if that solves the issue for good.

Why it doesn’t work is an interesting question in itself; something in your posts, probably, but exactly what, I don’t know.

alrighty 🙂 Thanks for the solution!!!

    Hi,

I’have exactly the same problem with our website : http://www.daskor.org/fr/?s=heol

If I disable the on-post highlighting, it works, if it’s enable the excerpt is not displayed.

I’m using this list of plugin, maybe one of them is not compatible ?
TinyMCE Advanced, Shortcodes Ultimate, Akismet, Broken Link Checker, Contact Form 7, Custom Field Template, jQuery Colorbox, kk Star Ratings, Polylang, SEO Smart Links, Twitter Facebook Social Share, SEO WordPress, WP-PageNavi

Callab, have you found a solution for enabling the on-post highlighting ?

    Thx,

This thread has already been marked as resolved, please open a new thread. But in general, I rather recommend you just disable the on-post highlighting.
