Excluding categories in an ad widget

    Hi
    I’ve been trying to use WP-Insert to exclude ads within all categories *but* one using the Rules section

    I tried to set status to “Hide Ads” under Categories and add the exception for the category where I need the ads. However in order to get any ads to show up, I also needed to set the Single Post status to Show Ads. However, ads don’t show up anywhere.

    I tried setting a status to “Show Ads” under Categories and excluding all except the category where I need the ad, and that still shows ads in all categories. Again, the Single Post status had to be set to show ads in order for ads to show up at all.

    For now, I’ve hacked it to individually exclude posts within the categories I don’t want ads to show up in, but I’m hoping I can actually use the categories filter to do this. Am I missing something?

    There are two filters within the Category Rule.
    One applies to Category archive pages and the other applies to posts with the selected categories applied to it.

    If you want to filter ads just from category archive pages you can use the first option and pick all categories except the one in which you want the ads to show up and leave everything else in its default state.

    So to clarify it isnt’t possible to reverse the exceptions to hide everything but only apply to the ids in the exceptions list? For example: if you’d like ads to appear in particular set of posts, you’d need to add the rest to the exceptions list apart from these ones where the ads need to appear? It would be extremely useful to be reverse exceptions if you are considering future refinements.

    Thats how it works..Its setup that way because normally people wants to show ads on all posts/pages except may be pages like Privacy Policy and Contact Us..
