• I have read through numerous forums and I am still reaching a dead end. My Page editor is only showing in HTML, and the Text/Visual links are not working, and Add Media and Add Slider also are not working. I am ok at HTML, but I like to use Visual setting.

    Things I have already tried:
    -Deactivating all plug-ins
-Making sure I didn’t have “Disable the visual editor when writing”
-Re-installing latest version of word press.

I have no idea what’s going on, and something is also messing with my plugins still. I have the Meta Slider on my homepage that is also only showing one image, when there are three. Please help!

  • Have you tried switching themes to a default theme? If it works when you switch themes, than it is an issue with your theme.

Can I do that without completely screwing with my live site? I just wanted to avoid disruption in viewing of the live version.

Same issue for me. I had WordPress 4.0 working properly and today. Media Library is invisible also. Not working with different themes either.

Any help is very much appreciated!! Not sure why this has happened.

Technically it shouldn’t break anything, and switching back to your theme should bring everything back to where it was. But again, it all depends on the theme. At this point since you disabled all plugins and tried re-installing wordpress the only thing you can do is switch themes to see if its working or not.

You can enable WP Maintenance plugin to put up “under maintenance” screen while you switch themes to prevent visits from seen your site while themes are switched.

Ok, I tried that now… I switched to another theme, and then tried switching back… still experiencing the same trouble. Could it have something to do with my FTP? I had a dummy site that I used when I was brainstorming ideas with our CEO, and when I log into the dummy site, which is under another FTP address, the toolbox shows back up, and Visual/Text/Add Media is all back the way it should be… any idea? Could that mean also something is wrong with our host? Our host server a few months ago disabled our site because it said it crashed their server… but I don’t understand why, we don’t have a big website. Could it be something they’re preventing us from doing that is messing with my WordPress on the background?

Can you elaborate on dummy site vs live site? Are the completely separate?

Most likely you were eating up CPU more than allowed, this can happen for various reasons… lots of plugins, certain plugins, hacked site, etc. My guess is something to do with plugins.

If you’re using Filezilla for FTP client, I would make sure all permissions were 644 for files and 755 for folders. It’s possible some WP files are not publicly accessible due to permission issue and breaking everything else.

    Who is your hosting company?

Well, we have a dummy site hosted on an internal server, that was like our… practice site. We have the live version, which is hosted on an outside server. I edit both with WP. The one on our server is fine, but doesn’t have all of the plugins as the live. I contacted the host server, and they checked our CPU and they said everything on their end is fine, and suggested I delete and reinstall all plugins, because some may not work with our current PHP. We host with IX Web Hosting.

“current PHP” – what version of PHP are they running on their servers? You can check by creating info.php file and adding <?php phpinfo(); ?> inside the file. Then view the file in your browser. That will show you PHP version.

You need at least 5.2.4 for WP, and some plugins/themes might require higher version of PHP. So 5.3 or even 5.4 would be much better.
