Hi
Thanks for asking! Let’s see if we can help
By any chance is live traffic scan enabled?
Tim
Hi!
thank you for your reply. Yes, live traffic scan was enabled. Wordfence was using 28MB (47%) of 59MB peak server memory.
I disabled it and ran the website load test again, the issue mentioned above disappeared. However, Wordfence continues using 28MB of 59MB peak server memory. Quite heavy. If you solve this issue, that would bring a nice improvement in website load and server usage.
I am leaving the live traffic scan off for now, but if you could perhaps improve its loading time, I can turn it on again, I like the feature.

I generally leave the live traffic off on my sites unless I keep getting notified of someone trying to login and getting locked. Then I’ll come back in and enable to watch and see if I need to take any action.
I’ll pass on the recommendation about the memory to the dev guys, but remember everything is going to consume memory and the more features people ask for and we include means it may increase the memory footprint. I like to think Wordfence has a pretty small footprint overall but during scans or when using live traffic it can be a beast depending on what options you have set.
What does your memory in php.ini set to? How much memory does your options page say Wordfence can use?
tim
Ok, I will let live traffic disabled, no problem. Memory set in php.ini is high, I set it to 256Mb and Wordfence scna memory option is also set to 256Mb.

So, does it still report its being a memory hog, or has the percentage of usage/performance improved any? Any errors listed?
Thanks!
tim
Well, the line mentioning the hog with Wordfence disappeared from the GXMetrix test. Therefore, there is no more hog in the speed load test. However, I cannot find again where Wordfence displays its memory usage. It is displaying now only the number of scanned files. As a whole, the website is now loading at 1.21 secs, and Pagespeed improved to “A”. So on my side everything is ok.
Sweet. I wonder if it was a network issue that was slowing things down.
Anyway, I’m glad it has worked itself out.

Hi Tim!
Somehow, the Wordfence ticker is now displaying the memory usage, with Live Traffic disabled: “Wordfence Live Activity: Wordfence used 32.95MB of memory for scan. Server peak memory usage was: 59.34MB” Therefore, memory usage continues the same, even with Live Traffic disabled.
Your question is a good one, concerning the network issue. I activated the live traffic now, and did the GXMetrix test. It will display again the Wordfence line, the one that disappears wwhen I disable Live Traffic, mentioning that it takes 1.28 secs to load. I post below the information, hope it helps.
But, I am happy with deactivating the Live Traffic. Perhaps this is an incompatibility with another plugin. Your plugin is great, and helps me to keep an eye on what’s happening. Many thanks for that. 🙂
