Support » Plugin: All-In-One Security (AIOS) – Security and Firewall » Database backup not working

  • I am having issues with the database backup section of the aiowps plugin on one of my sites.

    When I first installed the plugin it was working perfectly – however I have not had any backups since Aug 23 on one of my sites. If I go to force a manual backup the page reloads the screen with the tabs showing but nothing more after that. I have checked the apache logs as well as turned wp_debug on but have received no verbose errors as to why it won’t run the backup.

    Considering the fact that the plugin had been working I went through and disabled the most recent plugins (definitely within the last month) one by one to see if any were causing conflicts but none seemed to bring the backup back to life.

    This issue has been present since 3.9.2 – the site is now updated to 4.0

    Thanks for your time!

    I went back through my records and on Aug 22 I added a plugin called Category Order and Taxonomy Terms Order which adds a cell to a table in the database – could this be a conflict?

    This plugin was one of the ones I deactivated before trying a manual backup through the aiowps dashboard.

    Have you checked this plugin’s log file located here:
    /all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall/logs/wp-security-log.txt

    No I had not.

    I took a look and I get this error after trying a manual backup:

    FAILURE : Error inserting record into *prefix*_aiowps_login_activity

    However this looks like an error for my login to the site.

    Another thing to check is your general server logs.
    I know you said you checked apache logs but can you also check the server php logs?

    We have looked at these and there’s nothing.

    We have duplicated the site onto local host, removed ALL plugins bar aiowps with no success on a manual backup.

    We have even tried doubling the memory and changing file permissions all while monitoring the logs. There’s nothing coming up – it looks like it’s going through the action of backing up the database but isn’t saving it.

    I’ve just tried some tests on my local and real hosts and it works fine – so must be something unique to your setup.

    Can you check if you have a directory called “aiowps_backups” inside the wp-content directory?

    Thread Starter Creative Marketing

    (@creativemnz)

    Yes that directory exists. I had backups into there successfully until the 23rd Aug. Since that time I have not had any emails (the backups are set to email) with a backup for this site. We have multiple sites set up with aiowps successfully working and backing up but this site is the only one not backing up.

    Same happening on a site I’m working on. Won’t backup the database — /aiowps_backups folder is there and writeable. .htaccess and wp-config both backed up to the directory successfully so not sure why the database wouldn’t.

    Even disabled all other plugins and still the same — just the tabs and a blank grey page.

    The site is on Genesis with a StudioPress theme. HTH!

    @wpmuse,
    Have you also checked the plugin’s log file located here:
    /all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall/logs/wp-security-log.txt

    Are there any logs pertaining to this problem?
    Also check your server logs too.

    @creative Marketing,

    We have multiple sites set up with aiowps successfully working and backing up but this site is the only one not backing up

    Is there anything different (as far as setup and server type) about the problematic site when compared to those sites which successfully produce backups?

    Thread Starter Creative Marketing

    (@creativemnz)

    Nothing different, no. All the sites using this plugin are all on the same dedicated server and have had similar set ups.
    One of the sites we are running fine was initially a clone of the faulty site. The only difference now between those two sites are a couple of plugins and copy.

    Hi @creative Marketing are those plugins in the faulty site? If they are, what happens if you disable them?

    Regards

    Howdy! Nothing in the AIO logs except blocked ip notices and nothing in the server logs either that pertain to this.

    I have another site doing the same thing — even when ALL plugins are disabled. Updated AIO this morning on one and still no backup. .htaccess and wp-conf backed up just fine to the wp-content/aiowps_backups just not the database.

    Hostgator/VPS if that helps…

    @wpmuse,
    In the latest version we introduced a few more debug statements in the backup function.
    If you haven’t done so already, can you upgrade to the latest version of AIOWPS and then try a manual backup and check the /all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall/logs/wp-security-log.txt file again.

    As I noted above, I did update to the latest yesterday V3.8.3. Tried to backup again today just to be sure tan the wp-security-log.txt did not change and is still dated yesterday noting one IP block.

    So I updated the other site with this problem — on the same VPS, and no backup. But, the wp-security-log.txt did update noting the time I attempted the backup — but it was empty — 0 bytes.

    Both sites use a different mix of plugins. Both didn’t backup with all plugins disabled. I appreciate your support and assistance. Let me know what else I can do to help you figure this out! 😉

    Did this issue ever get resolved? I am having this same issue, press DB Backup, it starts the process but then finishes with no backup being saved, just a blank screen after the DB Backup tab.

    I run this plugin on many websites across various servers, but never a problem, but just with this website it is not working. I even have this website on the same server as my other websites.

    Did you guys ever get this figured out?
