hello again 😉
just to answer my own topic and mark this as resolved.
there’s a project translate wordpress and there you can always find the different language packs.
http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/twentyeleven/de/default
perhaps this might help someone else
thanks & greetings

Hi Becky!
I was looking for the same so thanks for the link. I downloaded both the latest .po and mo. files for German (formal), renamed them to twentyeleven-de_DE.mo and twentyeleven-de_DE.po and uploaded them into my wp-content/languages/themes directory (overriding the older files).
It seems to work but now I get a message in the backend, telling me that some of my language files need to be updated. When I update, it is “updated” back to German (informal).
Although it seems that the formal German is ok even if an update is suggested, I am a bit insecure about this issue….
Any comment / suggestion ? 😉
hi thomas,
i personally don’t care that much about formal or informal language packs as long as the are up-to-date
but did have a look at the revision:
formal -> PO-Revision-Date: 2013-05-23 10:12:47+0000
informal -> PO-Revision-Date: 2013-10-25 09:06:54+0000
so it makes sense that wordpress updates ‘back’ to the informal version.
perhaps you can change the formal language pack to another higher revison so wordpress won’t update back?
best of luck & greetings

Hi Becky,
thanks for getting back so quickly and for pointing out the revision date issues.
So really just one question remains: Where do I get a the a more recent / the most recent (?!) revision of the translation if not on the link you provided (http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/twentyeleven/de/default)
?
hi thomas,
i think you will get the most recent version at the link provided. only problem is the revision difference for formal and informal.
so i suggest a small hack -> open with notepad and modify the revision so it won’t get updated back … that’s what i would do.
hope this helps 😉
Hi Becky,
thanks for the hint! I just “hacked” the revision date of the formal file to be the same as the one of the informal one and it seems to have worked.
Thanks again!
Thomas
awesome! glad i could help 😉
