The button that used to support add media as simply gone inoperative. There is also a button missing i think that used to be next to it (I’m sure there were two buttons above the editor)

Basically I got bounced into a 4.0 upgrade and that’s clearly the culprit. Is there anyway of rolling this back 3.9.2 as it seems looking at the amount of traffic that this latest upgrade (I use the word loosely) has generated that I’m a long way from being alone, but being unable to post any images into a website is a blow. I’ve got to suspect equally that there are other things likely to have failed too

Right the missing button is a figment of my imagination. The contact form still works. It’s just the ‘add media’ button that’s failing. I don’t know what describe it as? It’s just dead. You click on it, and nothing happens

The preview button doesn’t seem to give a preview any more, you have to update the page and view it to see changes you’ve made.

Clicking the media button does nothing other than add a the hash to ‘action=edit#’in the URL.

What plug ins are you running MCG?

I’m guessing that must be the culprit as I can’t believe that WordPress have built a so called upgrade and disabled their ‘add media’ function. I mean it’s a pretty basic thing.

I’m guessing that between us we must have something similar if you’ve got the problem across different themes. I’m only running the single Woo Commerce theme, but my understanding was that they work closely with WordPress and tend to come from off the same page

The other next to add media may have been ‘add contact form’ perhaps.

Same plugins across the two sites are:

    Akismet
    Comprehensive Google Map Plugin
    Google Translator
    Hana Flv Player
    Horizontal scrolling announcement
    Imsanity
    Jetpack by WordPress.com

That sounds plausible, but I checked another site on the same theme that hasn’t been the subject of the dreaded auto update to 4.0 and there wasn’t a button there, so I’m inclined to think it could have been a figment of my imagination. I just sensed there used to be button there I never used as contact form were done through the plug in contact form 7

I have the same issue. Also, my widget area doesn’t work at all. I can’t edit widgets nor can I drag and drop them.

Akismet and Google maps Plug in I’m running too

Akismet is widely used, if there was a conflict it would be known I’d assume. My best guess is the maps are the most likely culprit

I did run Jetpack until 30 mins ago! decativated hoping that was responsible as its pretty useless and I could run without it. But it wasn’t. Then it wouldn’t let me reactivate without password and user names!!! bloody useless like I said

I just updated to 4.0 and am getting the same results. I cannot add media. When I click on the ‘Add Media” button it does nothing except add the “#” in the address bar. That usually means it is a dead link.

When a bunch of the magic buttons stop working after an update, then this points squarely at one problem: caching.

Yes, I know. You may have read this 100 times. I’m really going to have to point it out again, because I do know wherefrom I speak here. πŸ™‚

Clear your browser cache. Restart the browser. Then, do it again. Hold the SHIFT key and click the refresh button. Whatever you have to do.

If you have any caching plugins or use Cloudflare or anything with the word “cache” in it at all, then turn them off or find a button to “clear cache” on them.

The thing is, an update loads a bunch of new scripts and such onto your site. But for those scripts to work, your browser needs to actually load them and run them. Caching, of any sort, can prevent it from doing that.

So when all the assorted buttons don’t work or act funnt, it’s not because of a bug, it’s because you’re seeing the new site, but still have the old scripts. Really. Happens to us all. Heck, happened to me too this morning, after I updated my site to 4.0. I cleared Chrome’s cache and restarted it and all was well in the world.

It’s almost certainly the Comprehensive Google Map Plugin. I just enable it on a new site i’m doing and it immediately broke the ‘add media’ button. I disabled it and the functionality came back.

Did all the steps to clear the cache and got the same results.
