This is a fantastic plugin–and one of the only ones that’s even attempting to fill this need.

However, I dislike the fact that my blog contributors are required to log in with their WP information, and then log in again with the Hypothesis login. Is there a way to integrate this further? It would be fantastic if a signed-in user could simply annotate under that account, the way they would a normal comment.

Not currently. The plugin is focused on providing the easy addition of Hypothes.is-based annotation and commenting to a site. Login and user management is handled via Hypothes.is accounts (which is a free, public service run by a non-profit, fwiw).

Long term goals do include OAuth (etc) style login, and that could be a point of integration in the future.

If you’re curious about the projects progress, you can checkout http://github.com/hypothesis/h
