• I’ve had a helluva year trying to get P2 to play nice with stuff.

Basic Comment Quicktags has been a mini-epic.

BuddyPress has been another ongoing struggle. P2 and BuddyPress both search posts and comments for @mentions and process them into links, but they don’t work together.

this bug is still a problem, for example, on a fresh hard drive with fresh installs of WordPress, BuddyPress, and P2.

The mentions handling in BuddyPress is more feature rich than in P2, so what I’d like to try is disabling mentions in P2.

But … I can’t figure out how to do this.

How can I disable mentions in P2?

Hi Careb, you might want to take a look at this similar thread:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/displaying-actual-username-of-all-users

Mentions functionality is in the file inc/mentions.php. Our developers suggest that if you want to turn off user suggestion, you can try filter on the function p2_user_suggestion and return an empty array to return an empty set of users. This hasn’t been tested, but you can feel free to experiment with it in a child theme. If this isn’t in your skillset, you might want to consider hiring someone to write the custom function, or perhaps join forces with joeymalek if you’re trying to do the same exact thing in your sites.
