    Hi there:

    Unfortunately you can’t avoid using admin-ajax.php – all AJAX calls in WordPress (including those in Jetpack) go through that, priv (logged in) or nopriv (logged out). It isn’t a Jetpack thing as much as a WP thing. Since Carousel requires AJAX to function, that’s why it’s appearing to be broken.

    If you’re protecting that directory to prevent access to your site’s back end, you could protect wp-login.php or use Authy or Google Two Factor Authorization to add two factor login support to your wp-login page.
