Changing styling of default Gallery

Hi all,

I see this is a problem that many people have – trying to update the styling of their default WordPress-created gallery. I’ve tried everything I could find but haven’t had any luck.

I have a slideshow gallery on the homepage of one of my sites: http://www.usmedicalsoccerteam.org

Currently it has a large black border around it with lots of top/bottom-padding. I’m trying to get rid of all of the black. See screenshot here. All images are at 910×305.

I’ve tried figuring out what CSS to change using Chrome’s inspect elements, and even tried removing the gallery’s CSS with PHP filters in functions.php (from here and here. Neither worked.

If you could provide any clues as to what CSS I could add or change to help get this worked out I would much appreciate it.
