• Hi guys! So I have a weird issue with my site that has really only presented itself in the last month or so. When someone visits the site for the first time, it loads incredibly slowly. Around 8 seconds is the average. However, after that initial load and the caches have been built in the user’s browser, the page loads in around a second which is manageable. Now, I have little to no experience in coding and web design, but I know when there is something not quite right.

So I guess I’m really just trying to figure out why this is happening. It is almost certainly scaring away a lot of users from my site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    My site: http://nerdspeak.co/

It runs on the Suffusion theme. I also use W3 Total Cache for all of my caching and minify needs. So… What is going on?

It also might be worth mentioning that when I run a test on the site with GTMetrix or Pingdom, the first test after I clear the cache shows a really long site load time. Every subsequent test is much better.

It was pretty fast for me: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/bNpYMO/http://nerdspeak.co/ and this was first load.

    Maybe it’s your internet connection?

Yeah, that’s about what I usually get. But here is the same test after just emptying the caches (which I usually do after manipulating any plugins or changing any important site settings): http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/bsTdoY/nerdspeak.co

Now maybe I’m just being a dummy and I should stop emptying the site caches, but when I look at Google Analytics it shows that my average site load time is around 8 seconds. Since at this point in time most of my visitors are first time visitors I just assume they are getting that time.

And you can also see that my site performance score goes up the first time it is tested after emptying the caches. Every subsequent test gives scores ~20 points lower. That’s also odd.
