I’m using your plugin to redirect to a custom login page (a cut down version of wp-login). The problem is if someone gets the login wrong they are redirected into the site – all be it the themed login error (TML) page asking for you to repeat the login. Obviously they see the site, although any use of the menu takes them back to the custom login page?
I realise this is a conflict with themed my login, but is there a fix so i can stop them seeing the site??

  • I will recreate that situation on my test systems, and report back here ASAP.

I did some testing and am willing to look at expanding my plugin to catch failed logins and redirect them appropriately. At first glance, this is probably only needed when Custom Login is selected in my plugin.

What has me confused is why you would even need TML if you have your own custom login page. Knowing that will help reduce the confusion I face in trying to get this sorted out in the best way possible.

Please let me know and then I can think more clearly about the whole issue.

I’ve used TML as part of my website, theme-ing registration, profile and login pages.. I’ve used your plugin to secure the website whilst I continue building the site online so no one can see it (I’ve been building it on localhost and as usual things don’t work when you go online!). The custom login page I’ve built for your plugin is literally just the user name and password on a blank page, giving no clue that is even a wordpress site, let alone any clue as to the website itself.

Thank you. I’ll figure out a solution as quickly as possible.

Now that I’m back at my Desk, I can give you a little more detail.

I want to start by correcting an error in the plugin unrelated to TML. And that is the fact that, with Custom Login selected, a failed login attempt does not return you to the Custom Login page as it should.

Once I have that, I’ll know better what is required, if anything, to make a complete solution when TML is added to the mix.

At some point in this process, I am going to need you to test a Beta version of the plugin. If you are willing to test a Beta when I have one ready, please contact me off-line through this Contact Form: http://jonradio.com/contact-us/ and I’ll e-mail it to you.

OK, this was easier than I thought. So, I am releasing Version 2.11.3 of the plugin in the next 5 minutes to correct this problem.

Please let me know if it fully addresses your situation.

Thank you again for your help in understanding this.

Hi yes you’ve fixed the wrong password redirect, but………. I tested it at first by leaving the password blank that didn’t work! :-)))

PS also if I leave the user blank.

PPS any idea why ‘Landing location’ resets to ‘omit’, no matter what I try to select?

I will investigate the blank user and password issues right away. Thanks for noticing.

As for Landing Location being set to Omit, I really have to do that because I cannot figure out a way to avoid Redirect loops on Custom Logins provided by plugins that don’t accept or strip &redirect_to=. It gets really, really ugly when that happens as no one can login until the directory where my plugin is located is deleted.

The best I can offer at this point is to dig up a note from an Admin who went into the WordPress database and changed it that way. If I allow it from within the Settings page, people will change it and not be able to get logged on and back into the Settings page to change it back.

As I say, I’ll respond on the blanks ASAP.

WordPress handles blank username or password differently than incorrect values for either. I’ve figured out what hook to add to address that, so I should I have a new version of the plugin in the next hour or two.

I’ll post here when it is ready and released.

I’m unexpectedly going away and won’t be back at my desk for nearly two hours. I have everything working, but don’t want to release it until I’m back at my desk to resolve any issues that come up.

    Thanks for your patience.

Version 2.11.4 has now been released and should update automatically.

New problem! I’m currently revamping the site for the iPad. The recent changes are now bring up an error on the ipad (mobile safari). The main site of the desktop is fine, but if I try to login on the iPad, I get “Could Not Open the Page, Too Many Redirects”. If I deactivate your plugin, login in and reactivate the plugin again, everything is fine.
I think this is one to sleep on! The main site isn’t affected so a quick ‘de’ and ‘re’ activate for the ipad isn’t much hassle.
Thanks again for all the work
    Mike
