Hello, I’ve been experiencing issues with my website for awhile now (a couple months) where it’s extremely slow when updating/loading. For example, I added a comment reply earlier tonight and it took a good 10 seconds for it to update the page with my comment.

I’ve noticed the dashboard feels clunky loading as well.

I have run it through the optimizer checker sites and while my site doesn’t rank fantastic, the items it points out (such as images) are not actually showing on my site, but are in the “media” page.

How can I tell the difference of whether it’s my site or my host? I use hostgator shared.

    Website: http://apocalypticthoughts.com
    Page I commented on:
    http://apocalypticthoughts.com/best-and-worst-apocalyptic-books/

I have changed it to show only 5 posts at load rather than 10, but it didn’t seem to help.

  • Hi Synfidie.

Couldn’t the issue be at your webhosting service maybe?
Your website loads ok fast at my PC.
Maybe it could also be your internet connection?

But if u got time, it would be a good idea checking if it’s the internet connection that is the issue, or something else.

    Synfidie,

Your websiite loads quite fast on my PC too, however there are a few things you could probably consider. After a quick check with Firebug I’ve noticed that there’s a lot of various JS libraries loaded. According to the Firebug stats they take quite a lot of time to get downloaded.

Perhaps then you should try any of the caching plugins like for example W3 Total Cache? Some of the libraries are downloaded directly from google or WordPress api sites and you probably can do nothing about it but the plugin should allow you to minimize and cache all other scripts and also pack them into the one library called at the end of website download. The same is about CSS.

I think it should help a bit. If not, why not to ask your host to check their logs – maybe the server isn’t that fast…?

Hey guys, thank you for replying. I apologize for not replying faster!
I’m curious if it’s my PC now as you guys say it loads fast. I just feel like something is wonky with the speed as I have fios and rather fast internet. It just feels clunky while loading.

I do feel the “clunky” more in my dashboard as well, so I’ll check with my host.
I also have been having theme drama where I really hate the theme and that may be contributing to the issue.

I think I had the W3 Total Cache on my page once upon a time and I don’t remember why I stopped using it! I’ll check it out again.

Thank you for your suggestions and for checking for me!
