 * How do I make the main content (the middle part) to be all white regardless of
   the content of the page is shorter than the widget (secondary).

 * On 2011, that does not happen by default, you must have removed a background 
   colour during your edits… or removed a clear
 * The big problem I see here is that you edited 2011.

 * You really need to create a child theme. When 2011 is updated, which is likely
   on the next WP upgrade, all of your changes will be lost
