Search All Tables
-
Hi Tobias!
Is there a way to set up multiple tables so they can all be searched at once? Basically a global search function for all tables….
Thank you!!

Hi Laura,
thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.
Unfortunately, I’m not aware of an existing solution to this, sorry 🙁
The JS search/filter function above each table can only search one table, as that’s the data pool that it uses.
However, TablePress integrates into the regular WordPress search, so that data in tables that is embedded into posts/pages is found through that as well.Regards,
TobiasHi Tobias,
No problem, I am very happy to be able to use your plugin, it is a great plugin!!
Just one more quick question. You mentioned that TablePress integrates into the regular WordPress search. I’ve tried this (using the “Search Everything” plugin), but it doesn’t seem to work. Here is an example:
If I do a test for Laura for example (in the search box above where it says “sitewide search”) the result does not show the entry in the test table…
Thank you sooo much!!
LauraHi Laura,
that’s strange. You shouldn’t actually need “Search Everything” here. It might actually be interfering.
Can you try without it? And is that test page a regular published page?
Regards,
TobiasAh you are right, the Search Everything plugin did interfere with the search. It now finds the table when I search for “Laura”, but I guess it doesn’t just find the one entry with “Laura”, it finds the whole table.
I guess the reason why it doesn’t work at all on this page…
http://pacbrake.com/service-support…is because this is not a regular text page. Is that correct? Do you think with some custom programming it could be changed so that the tables on the Service and Support page will show up in the regular search results?
Thank you one more time for being sooo helpful 🙂
LauraHi Laura,
good to hear that that works! Yes, the search integration will only show the page will the full table (that contained the search term “Laura”). It basically treats the search term in the same way as it if were in the regular page content.
I don’t really see a way of changing the code so that the Service and Support page will show up though 🙁 Given how that’s using a lot of JavaScript, that would really be enough anyway, as it wouldn’t open the correct menu item yet 🙁
Sorry for not having a solution here…Regards,
TobiasHi Tobias,
No problem and thank you again!
LauraHi,
sure! I hope that TablePress is still useful for you, even without this.
Best wishes,
TobiasOh absolutely, it is VERY useful 🙂
Hi,
that’s nice to hear! In case you haven’t yet, do you maybe want to rate TablePress here in the plugin directory? Thanks!
Best wishes,
TobiasI guess there’s no further info on the possibility of a global search for tablepress tables –
6digitoak.com is a website to enable aircraft techs quickly find a specific reference -the catch is you need to know an approximate idea of what table to look in. We all know the ATA numbers for the different systems -but sometimes you’re not sure what system a specific task is in and I have tablepress set up per individual ATAs -the search for each ATA is great – each ATA is it’s own table -but would love the ability to search all tables on the website at once … maybe in the future there is a possibility for this sort of a feature!! Thanks for the great pluginHi,
thanks for your input on this! Unfortunately, I don’t have any news on this. The DataTables JS library can only search one table at a time by default, from what I know. You would have to use its API functions to filter all tables on the page at the same time.
Regards,
Tobias
