• Hi, I have just installed WordPress and just have 2 quick questions while trying to make my site look better. My WP blog is on http://www.abovetherefs.com and it uses the sunset theme feel free to check the page source or anything if that helps.

First of all, when people usually make WP sites and on the Navigation bar on the top, it says i.e. “home”, “about”, “contact,” are these pages created using Manage->Pages->New Pages? I ask because this is how I did it and my about page for example is under http://www.abovetherefs.com/?page_id=6, whereas I would like it to be just http://www.abovetherefs.com/about/.

My second question is about adding PHP scripts to one of my pages. All I want to do is act a simple PHP script that I am certain works onto my contact page so that when people click submit, it will send me an email. However, whenever I type the code in under “code”, it does not display correctly in the WYSIWYG editor and then when I go back to code and switch back to the visual editor, the spacing gets very messed up and the “submit button” is just gone. In another case, I tried to edit a biography page with pictures and text and it is difficult to say the least to edit the number of lines below a certain picture for the next paragraph. I don’t know if anyone else has a similar experience but editing code and spacing on the WP editor seems extremely difficult.

Thanks for your help and it’s definitely appreciated mucho!

  • Hello, I think I can help you with your first question. Both your solutions can be found inside your dashboard – manage – pages page. Firstly, to change your page url to a nicer name like /about, /contact, simply edit the “page slug” to whatever you want it to be. For your page order, take a look at the page order tab at the lowest right corner – the smallest numbered page will appear on the left, bigger to the right, and so on.

    Hope that helps !

Thanks for your help, I’ll try that

Does anyone know how to make the editor correctly display blanks lines, paragraphs, and code?

For the first question, I think you might need to turn on Permalinks.

As to Q2. This should not be done on a static page. It should be a template. Template files should not be edited in the editor. Switch to a text editor and ftp.
