1and1 database connection error

    I’ve been trying to install WordPress but I continue to get the error:

    Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at db531.perfora.net. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    … and so on. My domain is through 1and1 and they recommended wordpress and it sounds as though many people use them so I’m assuming their server has all needed capabilities. I’ve gone through checking the needed information to change the wp-config.php and it is all correct. I’ve tried removing wordPress completely and restarting through the steps one by one and yet nothing has changed.

    The problem may be in how I’ve set-up the location of WordPress. What I’ve done is upload the files to a sub-domain specifically for the blog; there are no other files in the folder other than the wordpress files. The address is:
    http://www.guestbook.prepareministries.com/wp-admin/install.php

    I am inexperienced with databases and MySQL and a basic website designer. I’ve looked through the forum, but everything I try hasn’t worked. I’m out of ideas as to what is wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Well, that looks to be the correct server name for your DBHOST (last time is installed at 1and1 db536.perfora.net was the server).

    If you are sure the database name, database user, and password are correct, then maybe the server is down.

    Wait a bit to see if it comes back up.

    Note: I just checked and was able to start the install.php so I closed the window at the First Step. So just click on the link you provided and go for it.

    Thanks. I’ve been at this for hours. I wish I’d known it was simply the server was down. Would have saved alot of fustration.
