In redesigning my personal website i added wordpress last oct 07, set up what is required such as databases, ect and everything worked perfectly.

Recently i begann to work on adding my own graphic as the header to the blog, in doing so i renamed my image “kubrickheader.jpg” and reloaded the entire wordpress folder on to the server. now i am unable to access my blog as i get the message:

    “Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

I also can not access admin log in page.

I have checked all details in wp-config.php and everything matches up to my sql

I changed the header image back to default

I am competely clueless as to what the problem may be

If you have any suggestions or idea’s of what to do it would make my day. 🙂

    thank you

    Sinead

    pic86,

Recently i begann to work on adding my own graphic as the header to the blog, in doing so i renamed my image “kubrickheader.jpg” and reloaded the entire wordpress folder on to the server.

And as a result of doing so, you may have overwritten your wp-config.php file that contained the database access information…

What you need to do is to edit your wp-config.php and put back the correct settings for database server, user name, password, etc.

i have rechecked the info in the wp-config.php everything appears to be correct and it is still not working?

Are you on Yahoo by any chance?

I get this error as well and have contacted them, they have been very little help but I’ve disabled all plugins, this seems to have helped a little.

i’m using firefox, it worked ok before….i’m going to relook everything, double check every thing is correct

🙂 i’ll get to the bottom of this

I am getting the same error on my blog. I haven’t touched the code in a while and it was working fine yesterday. Have you found out what is wrong?

I’m having this same problem suddenly on 2 blogs (http://e9hh.com/blog and http://www.xplosiveworld.com).

Both sites seem to be experiencing the same problem and pulling the Error establishing a database connection message.

The only thing I can think of that might be causing this is I redirected both sites to pull the URL’s starting with the www prefix in the settings, but both worked fine after making the change.

    Help is much appreciated!

My blog is working now. It was caused by my host so my problem had nothing to do with WordPress. My database server was down.

My issue has been fixed as well. Server issue would make sense for the downtime, bet we’re using the same hosting company.

I believe the internet broke down today. 🙁 Unbelievable as it might seem, our (at least here in North America and Americans in particular) love affair with streaming media has finally caught us off guard. It’s called the OLYMPICS.

Seriously, I maintain about six blogs for different people. Two
different web hosts and FIVE of the blogs were down. The only one not down is the one in a WINDOWS SERVER. Go figure. Hopefully, the crisis is over

why would it be the internet :), the wordpress error page is self explanatory, this cants be the “internet” the error means that your database is missing or there is no connection to your localhost MYSQL, the best thing for you to do to rule out all the possible causes to to install a new TEST wordpress in another folder and under anew database user and so on, and see if it works, if it does than its a wordpress file that is broken or you have broken it, if it too does not work than you should contact your hosting company because it must be the mysql
