    Hey Guys,

How do I remove the:(preferred format HTML or Text) from my form? Or perhaps there is a conflict? It is taking a whole lot of space that I need, plus it looks unprofessional. I tried to figure it out to no avail.

What am I using: The Widget
Where do I use it: On my right side bar
How did I style it: My own CCS

I went to MC’s form sign up area and can’t find the code where this could be? As far as I am concerned there is nothing indicating that I checked those off, or at least I can’t find where.

Here is the link to my site (top right corner) Thanks

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi there healYOUnaturally!

Thanks for dropping by the forum. I certainly understand the need to get that field removed, and we’re happy to help.

Ultimately, the plugin would pull in the fields specified in your list, unless told otherwise. To locate those fields (and select/deselect them) from the WordPress Admin panel, click Settings and select MailChimp Setup. From there, scroll down until you see Merge Variables Included.

That said, the Preferred Format portion is actually going to be based on some list-specific settings within your MailChimp account. The middle portion of the following article should explain how to deselect that option (found underneath the “Change Subscription Settings” heading):

How can I change my list name and list defaults?: http://eepurl.com/BQWyz

Once that’s changed, navigate back to the MailChimp setup page for your WordPress account and click the Update Subscribe Form Settings button, and you’re plugin should be updated.

Let us know if there are any questions! We’ll be more than happy to help get them answered 🙂

    Hi Elliot,

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I followed all of the steps including the reading the article, but when I go to check my form, even after deleting the cache both in WP and my browser I don’t see any changes.

I checked off the boxes for the( Required? Visible?) fields. Is that correct?

In the event I didn’t explain correctly here is a screen shot of what I mean.

    Thanks again 🙂

    Hey Astrid!

It’s good to hear from you again 🙂

Can you walk us through the exact steps (being as exhaustive as possible) that would’ve been taken in performing those edits? Ultimately, we’d want to be sure that the associated list has settings in MailChimp that won’t allow for subscribers to select their preferred format. A quick way to check that from within your MC account would be to head over to the “Lists” page, select the list, click “Settings”> List name & Defaults, and uncheck the box that says “Let users pick plain-text or HTML emails.”

If you’d like, also feel free to email us your username to wordpress at mailchimp dot com. If you email us there, please indicate that in a new post (which can include the workflow that I asked for above) in these forums, so that we know to look for it.

We look forward to your reply!

    Hi Elliot,

Sorry for the late reply. I actually found the “Let users pick plain text or HTML” box and unchecked it as follows:

    1. Log in to mail chimp
    2. Sign up forms
    3. Check off the HTML/Text box
4.Updated, cleaned browser’s cache and then WP cache.

Update: Actually I just realized I didn’t do this step you suggested after changes (Once that’s changed, navigate back to the MailChimp setup page for your WordPress account and click the Update Subscribe Form Settings button, and you’re plugin should be updated.)

Voila it works! Elliot you are officially my hero :)Thanks so very much for your time and efforts. I truly appreciate it. It now works after updating the settings. woo hoo!
