    Hi,

I am using two separate themes (a Classified theme and a Directory theme). They are set up as a multi-site, as we needed the functionality of the separate themes, but they appear to viewer as one site. the directory is set up as a subfolder (/directory) not a subdomain. I have BWP GXS showing up in both site admins and the sitemaps have been generated.

At Google Webmaster Tools I submitted both as separate sites, was this correct? It would be nice to have been able to submit everything as one site.

Yes you will have to submit each site’s sitemaps individually.

It is not possible to include everything in one sitemap unless you have a master site that links to sites in sub-directories as Google doesn’t allow urls that link to a different directory unless it’s a child directory.

    Thanks for responding. 🙂

I’m still not clear. You said “unless you have a master site that links to sites in sub-directories.” But, that IS how I have the site set up.

Main site is at mydomain.com and other site is at mydomain.com/directory. That would be considered a child directory, right? The main navigation on both sites is identical. They look and work as one site, with similar design and same colors. So, it seems that Google would not have a problem with it, but is there any way to accomplish this using your plugin?

    Thank you!

Ah yes, the main issue now is BWP GXS doesn’t support such feature. But since you can submit the two sitemaps under the same domain in Google Webmaster Tools, I don’t see any problem. It’s like using two sitemapindex for a site.

This seems like an easy mod. You allow the option to generate this in robots.txt, so why not add an option to add it to the link structure in the xml itself?

It would be easy if sub-sites’ sitemapindexes can be used, e.g.:

    # below are contents of main sitemapindex.xml
    post.xml
    page.xml
    site1/sitemapindex.xml
    site2/sitemapindex.xml

but this might give you an error from Google: “This Sitemap Index is referenced by another Sitemap Index”.

So something more complicated is needed:

    # below are contents of main sitemapindex.xml
    post.xml
    page.xml
    site1/post.xml
    site1/page.xml
    site2/post.xml
    site2/page.xml

Thing is, since all sub-sites’ sitemapindexes can be added to the main site’s robots.txt, Google bot should be able to see and automatically use them to crawl sub-sites.
