How to create a featured post slider on the homepage

I am kind of a noob when it comes to coding and CSS. I am using a Rdizain child theme. Instead of the built-in grid type featured content, I would like to create a custom slider showing 3 or more featured posts on the homepage just below the top navigation bar and above the main content area. To that end, can anyone help me figure out what the exact code for the slider is. And where exactly should I place the code in the index.php file?
